What Bobby said this week … Volume IV

What did our fearless mayor have to say this week?

“That square should be green space,” he said, pointing across Fifth Avenue to a roughly triangular block that runs to Liberty Avenue with one remaining business, a Chinese restaurant. “Tear that down.”

Whoa! Sometimes I think I’m going to open my newspaper and find a photo of Bobby behind the controls of a bulldozer, just taking down anything he finds ugly.

And Sloganizer says:

Well, that joke just wrote itself.

Didn’t he learn anything from Murphy’s failures? You are not going to revive this city with cookie cutter development or closing going businesses. He needs to make parking cheaper and more plentiful to compete with the suburbs and to make the tax climate conducive to attracting business.

One thing Bob is not is a genius or an urban planner. We don’t need more failed “planned” downtown proposals.

Im not so sure that business will ever be the same downtown. It’s just too easy to go to the mall and hit all of the shops in one stop.

Parking tax needs cut in half as well.

Downtown is going to the way of apartments and housing.

Hmmm… I had a fortune cookie that said: “The Mayor thinks you’re ugly. How fast can you run?”

Didn’t think anything of it until now…

I am curious to see how this new development will be any more successful than Lazarus or Lord and Taylor were. And parking is ridiculous, yes. Must be fixed.

    “o”, HAH!
