Councilman Jim Motznik thinks the Wabash Tunnel is being underused because it is an HOV tunnel, meaning you must have at least two people in the car in order to use the tunnel at certain times.
City Councilman Jim Motznik is perfectly willing to admit that, technically, he has been in violation of Port Authority HOV restrictions by driving through the Wabash Tunnel without a passenger in his car.
“The few times I’ve been through it, there’s been no enforcement,” he said. “In fact, I waited to see if I would get pulled over, and I haven’t been. I was conducting my own study to see whether anyone was using that tunnel or not. And they’re not.”
What a coincidence! This morning I ran three red lights, just blew right through them, because I wanted to see if I would get pulled over, and I wasn’t! I was conducting my own study to see whether the cops were watching certain intersections, and they’re not.
Jim Motznik. Nice try, dude.
But yeah, I agree the restriction needs to be lifted. Not arguing that. But don’t insult my intelligence that the only reason you continue to use that tunnel is because you are conducting a study.
