It’s the Horses of Gettysburg Day!

I’m sure you know that last Friday was Cinco de Mayo. Did you also know, just as importantly, that it was Roger Babusci, Jr. Day?!

I decided to read the minutes of City Council’s May 2, 2006 meeting. These guys work so damn hard. Are they making enough money to do this?

As official Council business on May 2, the following days were officially announced:

  • Tuesday, May 2, 2006 “Horses of Gettysburg Day”
  • Saturday, May 6, 2006 “Hearts in the Park” day
  • Tuesday, May2, 2006 “Historic Preservation Day”
  • May 2, 2006 “Pittsburgh Symphony Day”
  • May 6, 2006 as “Light of Life Rescue Mission Day.”
  • Friday, May 5, 2006, “Roger Babusci Jr. Day”
  • Friday, May 5, 2006 as “Representative Harry Readshaw Day”
  • Saturday, May 6, 2006 as “Wallace J. Zielinski Day”

Who had any idea it was that freakin’ easy to get a “Day”?! Is this what Council does all the time? Just take applications for Days and then approve every single application? Roger Babusci Jr? Wallace J. Zielinski?

Do we really need to be just giving days away that easily? Consider that.

Then consider this. PittGirl Day.

A day dedicated to the free shooting of pigeons, the tasering of idiots, the worshiping of David Conrad, and naked PETA girls all over Market Square protesting the free shooting of pigeons.

Awesome. Who’s going to fill out the application?

Why do Roger Babusci Jr. and Representative Harry Readshaw have to share the same “day”? Are there not enough days in the year to give them their own? Did they pay half price? Does one get the a.m. and the other the p.m.?

If I’m Roger Babusci Jr., I’m pissed. I work my whole life for this accomplishment and I have to share it. With HARRY FREAKIN’ REDSHAW no less!

Come to think of it, not only do they have to share it with the other guy, but they have to share it with Cinco de Mayo. I’m going to start a petition to move Roger Babusci Jr. Day to May 19th.

For some reason I still remember that the day of the final Pirates game at Three Rivers was also Boy George Day in Pittsburgh.

And Yinzernation, I’m thinking that the council’s debate between Roger Babusci Jr and Harry Redshaw was very similar to Barney and Wade Boggs’ Pitt the Elder/Lord Palmerston argument on the Simpsons. Since Barney wasn’t there to slug anyone, I guess they had to tie.

Please don’t tell me that you missed Boy George Day in September of 2000.

I definitely missed Boy George Day. Can’t say I’m sad about that at all. :D
