It’s weird in the Burgh.

If you aren’t in or near Pittsburgh, I can tell you that the general feel I’m getting being in the Burgh is that a nuclear bomb could fall on New York City right now and this city would not blink, it is that engrossed in the Ben Roethlisberger accident.

That’s all there is on the local news: Ben’s accident, reaction from his teammates, a look at Ben’s career, Ben’s family arriving at the hospital with his Mom crying, reaction from people eating lunch at the Art’s Festival, a rehashing of Terry Bradshaw’s feelings on Ben riding a bike without a motorcycle, a rehashing of Bill Cowher’s feelings on Ben riding a motorcycle, fans gathering at Mercy Hospital, freaking KDKA helicopter just circling over Mercy Hospital, as if they’re going to bring Ben up to the roof and do the surgery right there. We KNOW what Mercy Hospital looks like KDKA, thanks.

This is bigger than the Pigeon Sniper, people. Much much bigger. I give it until Friday (if not sooner) before I’ve had enough of the 24/7 coverage.

And by the way, MSNBC is reporting that Benny has a 9 inch gash on the back of his skull. NINE inches! A friend of mine hit a windshield (well, went THROUGH a windshield) face first and had his face rebuilt and a metal plate put in. He was never allowed to play sports again because there was a danger in that if he was hit hard enough, the metal plate could enter his brain or something. Let’s all hope Benny isn’t getting any metal plates put in his head, as he has been in surgery for a shitload of time.

Yeah, it’s pretty big news if the big boss’ secretary calls everyone to tell them about it.

By 3:00 yesterday no less than 15 people told me about him. I almost killed the last person because of it. I bet if I killed someone because of them telling me about Big Ben I might make the news reel.

Okay – I didn’t make it until Friday – I’m sick to death of hearing about Ben’s choice not wear a helmet, and the great debate – should Big Brother step in and protect the “poor stupid idiots” who don’t know they really should wear a helmet?

Hasn’t anything else happened in Pittsburgh? In the country??

I’m officially tired of the Big Ben updates. Why is it breaking news that he is eating soft foods? Although I did get a kick out of the fans who tailgated in front of Mercy Hospital. I doubt that’s happening outside of the Cleveland Clinic. Gotta love the burg. Also, does it really surprise anyone that he didn’t have a motorcycle license?
