Let’s talk about Wendy Bell some more, shall we?

A reader (whose email I unfortunately deleted so I can’t remember her name … Laurie maybe?) informed me of a local media forum that she thought I would find of interest.

There has been a discussion going on about Wendy’s comment to the Burgh Blog (scroll to the “Wendy Bell Defends Herself” thread).

Some of that discussion centers on whether Wendy really wrote that comment, as she has denied to Rob Owen that it was her.

Readers?  Based on the email address it came from (and no, I did not give Rob Owen the email address.  I will NEVER share a commenter’s email … unless like the mob comes after me for it or something, then I’m pretty sure my sense of self-preservation will kick in), and based on the writing style, I am 100% positive that comment came from Wendy … and she then had poster’s remorse and denied sending it.

The comment that jumped out at me the most was this one by a guy who calls himself Burgher (how original, says the girl who dubbed herself PittGirl):

Some random observations:
“I don’t have enough time to shave my legs, for Christ’s sake.”
“I don’t like petty. I don’t have time for petty.”
Let’s see, no time to shave legs and no time for petty, but she manages to carve out some time to respond to minimally-read local blogs. I wonder if this could have been someone impersonating her. If it is truly Ms. Bell, it makes her look insecure and unprofessional. It seems to me that the general public liked her much better when she was dressing up like an old lady and advertising Comcast.

“Minimally-read local blog”?!?!

You bastard.

They obviously have no idea how many people follow your blog.

That brings up an interesting point, just how many “hits” do you get a day? (I’m talking about your site, of course.)

Actually, “minimally-read” might be accurate … but he’s still a bastard … as I get about 1,000 hits a day these days. Sometimes less, sometimes more. But I’m not in it for the hits, I’m in it for the adoration.

I read this blog everyday and I’m living in London. I’ve even converted my British boyfriend into a Burghblog fan. “Minimally-read local blog”, my ass.

Your blog is spreading by the minute. Keep up the great writing and don’t let “Burgher” get you down. He’s probably some crotchety old media person. Golly, who wouldn’t love that Wendy Bell – I watch her every night because it seems like she’s talking right to me. Every time she says “hey” I look up and say “what?” This way I can talk to someone other than my cats.

My friend just told me about The Burgh Blog this morning. I don’t feel like working today, so I’ve been browsing around your site. Good stuff.

I think he said minimally-read to sucker in comments to get a better idea of hits:
#1) because he does not believe you on the numbers,
#2) he’s jealous of your verve, elan and the strength and depth of your devoted
    following,
    #3) he just ain’t as hot .

When I refered a media-savvy friend of mine to the alleged Wendy post, his immediate comment was, “Dude, that reeks of fakery.” Though I didn’t see it.

And though you may be getting 1,000 hits a day, I’m sorry to report, 200 of them are probably me.

A media acquaintance of mine with first hand knowledge of Wendy Bell agreed wholeheartedly that it was in fact Wendy Bell.

Has your opinion changed of Wendy now that she dissed you?

Hey I have thoroughly enjoyed your blog and have told so many others – a lot of former burghers – about it and they too are sharing it with others who are enjoying.
Keep up the good work. I look forward each day to reading what you have to say.
P.S. My money is on that that was in fact Ms. Bell!

My opinion of Wendy has not changed because she dissed me … only because I knew she would. I am a LITTLE perturbed, but I’m going to give her another chance. :)

    And thanks, parakeet! :)

That Burgher dude is an idiot. He has grossly underestimated the number of people that read this blog, and the power that this blog has to make someone the most loved or hated person in Pittsburgh. I thoroughly enjoy reading your blog on a daily basis.

Wendy Bell is so annoying. Every advertisement for the evening news features her. The advertisements for Channel 4 rarely feature the other anchors such as Michelle Wright, Sally Wiggin, who are respectiful journalists. Channel 4 should have never got rid of Scott Baker. He was a respectful journalist, Wendy Bell is an annoying winer who thinks she is the ONLY news anchor on Channel 4.
