Yarone? Cut it out.

Dear Yarone Zober:
We get it. You’re speaking on behalf of Bobby O, but would you please please PLEASE cut it out with the “Redd Up” talk?
- Looking over a vacant lot overrun by weeds, he called to Kevin Quigley, point man for the mayor’s “Redd Up” campaign: “Hey, Kevin, can we get that redd up?”
- “So let’s get it clean, let’s get it redded up.”
- “Lawrenceville is really booming right now, but we still have a few problems that have to be redded up, including houses like this one,” said city Deputy Mayor Yarone Zober.
Thanks!

You know what I need? A t-shirt that says, “Yarone is a badass redd upper, mother…”.

can someone check – is ‘redded’ the correct past tense of ‘redd’?

My God, I was wondering the exact same thing.

I don’t believe it is. I believe redd covers both tenses.
I need to redd up the house.
We redd up the house before we left.
However, I can not be certain. Not a single Pittsburghese dictionary I could find showed the past tense.

The Redd Up campaign is awesome! It’s about darn time this city did some common redding up!

I agree the Redd Up campaign has been sorely needed, I’m just tired of Yarone overusing the phrase. :D

Any ironic usage of Pittsburghese pretty much irritates the piss out of me.

Lord. He is out of control. Can’t Dick Skrinjar, Mayor O’Connor’s Chief of Making Shit Up, give him some new index cards to read off of?

Wikipedia could use a good redding up. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yarone_Zober

Yarone’s been “Deputy Mayor” of Pittsburgh for two weeks, or whatever it’s been, and this entitles him to an entry in Wikipedia? I had a feeling that publication’s extremely exacting standards were starting to slip. Next thing you know, they’ll have pranksters sneaking in to add “funny” comments to their entries (as has happened at my blog at times).

You know, “Redd up” isn’t really just Pittsburgh English.
The Scots-Irish brought it here, and it’s still used in Western Scotland and Northern Ireland. Just so yinz know.

In New Pittsburgh, past tense of Redd is “Redded.” I will redd up, we redded up, they are redding up. I have a few other words in my vocabulary, but the papers seem to like quoting me when I say redd up. If you have any ideas for other catchphrases that may catch on with the press, please let me know!

WRONG WRONG WRONG! The past tense of redd as in “Redd up this room,” is redd as in “Mom, I already redd up my room.” What is questionable is the spelling. Is it REDD or READ?

Actually, according to this, using either redd or redded is correct:

Now that I am no longer Deputy Mayor, I can let you know that I did jokingly respond and dub myself the Big Redd Up. Though Mayor O’Connor has tragically passed, we hope you will all join us in our continued effort to continue his legacy by making Pittsburgh the cleanest and safest city in America. Now that I am, mercifully, out of the public eye, you are invited to email me at yzober@gmail.com to share your ideas on how to keep the Burgh on track toward being the greatest city we can be. Thanks for the shou out, Matt Logue, media superstar. And BTW, for all you bloggers out there… I am not gay, though if I were I would be proud to proclaim myself as such.

I hear you’re dating Peduto’s Ex. Wanna respond to that too?
Are you going to run for mayor?
Do you pay people to do online organizing for you?
Are you going to get yourself a car issued by the government?
Are you aware that I pay a 52$ occupation tax to WORK and you are GIVEN A CAR to work?
