In an effort to ensure that no voting stone is left unturned, Governor Rendell has gone and all but secured the vote of the mushroom growers in the state:
Gov. Ed Rendell has designated September as Mushroom Month in the state.
“The mushroom industry contributes more than $391 million to the state’s economy, making Pennsylvania the leading mushroom-producing state, with more than 495 million pounds produced annually,” Mr. Rendell said.
How nice… a whole month, 30 days, dedicated to the organized growth of fungi.
Other such months and days that Rendell has proclaimed:
- Dairy Month
- Older Pennsylvanians Month
- Weather Emergency Preparedness Week
- Farmers Market Nutrition Week
- Nurse Anesthetist Week
- Beef and Egg Month (SOOO not making that one up)
- Safe Drinking Water Week
- Responsible Dog Ownership Day
I fully expect next month to be designated as Corn Shuckers Month.
