WTAE did a cool thing by partnering up with YouTube to bring us long forgotten goodies including:

1.  A reminder as to how totally perfect Don Cannon and Sally Wiggin were as a team.  Man, that Don Cannon is awesome under pressure.

2.  The bestest commercial EVER featuring Joe DeNardo as a mad scientist.  The evil laughter.  The expert way he swooshes his evil cape around his evil shoulders.  There is so much awesomeness happening here I can’t stand it.  Why don’t they make stuff like this anymore?  I would eschew A-1 sauce for a commercial featuring Wendy Bell, Ashley DiParlo, Janelle Hall, and Sally Wiggin as the Sex and the City girls.  (One of you readers go Photoshop that for me, please.)

3.   And you gotta watch these old old old promos because A:  HILARIOUS and 2: Paul Long was such a sexy beast.

All of WTAE’s videos are posted here.  Have fun.

While you’re there, watch the Willie Parker video, but NOT for Willie Parker’s annoying ass … for Jon Burton’s HUGE ARMS.  Who knew?

Jon Burton has to make up for his small stature by having huge arms. It makes him feel more like a normal person.

This is a serious inquiry to WTAE: If you have any Paul Shannon clips, I, and I am sure many, many others, would be forever in your debt if you’d post them. (For the younger viewers: Paul Shannon was the host of Adventure Time on WTAE. Every kid in Western Pennsylvania growing up in the ’60’s, and their parents, knew who Paul Shannon was. He was bigger than any local television figure today by several orders of magnitude. Paul was the first TV host in America to run the Three Stooges’ short films, starting in the late ’50’s – at a time the Stooges were anything but major celebrities.)

I love that news set in the old promos. Looks like they copied it from WJM-TV.

Also, Paul Long *is* Lou Grant.

Loved the DeNardo clips. KDKA-TV should put their Bob Kudzma promos on their website. The one where the Godfather’s daughter was being married and he warned Bob “Fix da weather good, Kudzma!” is a howl. The other one that I remember was Bob’s mother calling “Bobby!!!to come in out of the rain and Bob jumping into a mud puddle with both feet.

I agree with Bill re: the Kudzma Godfather commercial. That may have been the all-time greatest local commercial, at lease in the past 40 years.
