So listen, very surprisingly to me, this little blog here was voted the Best Pittsburgh Blog in the 2007 City Paper Readers’ Poll (check out that unfortunate rendering of Sonni Abatta wearing her dancing dress while holding a screaming federal-SUV-riding Lukey.  I imagine a Lukey scream sounds like “EEEEEEEEE!”).

That’s nuts, considering I wasn’t even on the radar of that poll last year. Not even a little blip for someone to look at and say, “Sir, we’ve got an unidentified foreign blog approaching from the west, and it appears to be being followed by a flock of very angry pigeons. Shoot to destroy, sir?”

So, anyways, my acceptance speech:

Oh, my gosh! This is so unexpected. I didn’t prepare a speech or anything. Um, gosh. I’d like to thank God. Of course thanks to my Alfred the Butler. This is so crazy. Um. Oh, David Conrad, WordPress, Sonni, Wendy, Jim, John, my laptop, the wonderful city of Pittsupmcburgh. Who am I forgetting? Oh, Luke Ravenstahl, and all of my self-united husbands for believing in me. And finally, to all of my wonderful readers without whom I would be nothing, and let’s face it, without me, you’d be nothing, too.

Seriously, if you voted, many thanks for thinking of me.

Also? If I’m being followed by a flock of angry pigeons, you should ALWAYS shoot to destroy.

(Thanks to The Comet and The Burgh Report for informing me.)

Congratulations!!! Yours was one of the few categories I thought was right on! (Joseph-Beth best local bookstore? Um…it’s a chain! Brillobox second-best place to see good-looking people? *Really*? I hope they mean a very, very distant second best.) But yeah, yours is quite well-deserved.

Congratulations! I like to think that I had a lot to do with making this blog a success, mainly because my therapist said I should tell myself warm, supportive things to boost my self-confidence.

Seriously, my morning coffee wouldn’t be the same with The Burgh Blog. Thank _you_.
