Just a note to say that I think my entire brain is really just a big ball of hormones, because last night when Malkin got his SECOND hat trick in 11 days (gee, do you think he’s got something to prove?) and the hats were raining down and he just kind of paused for a second to enjoy it?

I cried a little.

Boy, do I need to cowgirl the hell up!

Also, what I’d like to do is attend a game with a hat-trick, wait until they sweep up all of the hats, and then as soon as the hat collector dudes exit, whip my hat out onto the ice and be all, “Hah.  PSYCH!”

Would I get in trouble for that?

Depending on your timing of throwing your hat…

If they were all completely done with picking up the hats, and about a milisecond from dropping the puck, and you were obviously spotted by an usher tossing your cute little PittGirl hat onto the ice…yeah, you would probably get in trouble.

I don’t know the official rules on that though, just my opinion.

BUT, I do know for a fact that a dude was drunkenly pounding on the glass, and he got about 2 warnings and on the 3rd got bounced from the game.

    Well, there’s this:

63.4 Objects Thrown on the Ice – ….When objects are thrown on the ice during a stoppage in play, including after the scoring of a goal, the Referee shall have announced over the public address system that any further
occurrences will result in a bench minor penalty being assessed to the home Team. Articles thrown onto the ice following a special occasion (i.e. hat trick) will not result in a bench minor penalty being assessed.

The way I have seen that rule interpreted is that once the hats are cleaned up, that’s it for the special exemption; throwing anything at that point would be to risk the penalty.

Five years ago or so I went to a game on ‘hat night’ and there was a hat trick. The ice was FILLED. After all of those hats were finally picked up tons more surfaced. They actually had to make an announcement to stop tossing hats. It was kind of fun!

I believe the rule Pensgirl was speaking of was put into place after the run the Flordia Panthers had back in 1996 when they were throwing rats on the ice. I was at the game last night and the energy there was great…although I’m always pumped for a Rangers game:)

I’m more curious as to what

    ‘cowgirl the hell up’

Perhaps you are speaking in tongues?
