Justice.

Former Pittsburgh City Councilwoman Twanda Carlisle today was sentenced to 12 to 24 months incarceration for her role in a kickback scheme that directed some $43,000 in city money to her personal and campaign accounts.

Backed by a half dozen supporters who pleaded for mercy, Ms. Carlisle urged Allegheny County Judge John Zottola to, “through the negative, let some positive light shine.”

Her lawyer, Patrick Thomassey, said he would file a motion today asking that she can serve her time at home, rather than jail.

My thoughts:

1.  Yes!

2.  “Through the negative, let some positive light shine”?!?!  The hell?  What positive light is that, Twanda?  Letting a criminal off with a slap on the wrist?  OJ Simpson must be a blinding light to you.  With that plea, you just solidified your place on my shit list.

You’re not too far below Tom Brady, yo.

3.   Please pray tell what is the reason she needs to serve her time at home?  How is that punishment enough?  Is jail going to offend her delicate sensibilities or something?  Good.

Twanda, if Martha Stewart can survive jail and Paris Hilton can survive jail, surely your cushy ass can survive it as well.  It’s called, and I’ll say it slowly for you, [typing super slow-mo] facing the consequences of your illegal thieving fur-coat buying actions.

Maybe one day I’ll get some cash I don’t own to buy stuff I shouldn’t have and even get some money for my friends so they can do the same, and in the end, I’ll get to STAY HOME! That should be the perfect punishment to help me achieve expert level on Guitar Hero 3. We all should aspire to be Tawanda.

Careful there Pittgirl, Doctor Doctor Goodness may become upset at you for speaking the truth about one of the role models for those aspiring to make a name for themselves in community activism and local politics.

and she gets to keep the fur coat:

Ms. Carlisle will lose the $23,396 she has contributed to the city pension fund since she was hired as a council aide in 1994, plus around $20,000 she paid into a privately managed deferred compensation plan. The court will decide what to do with a fur coat she bought with taxpayer money, which Mr. Claus said was appraised at $2,500. She may be allowed to keep that, he said.

    I just LOVED this line:
They have stripped her of everything except her integrity,” said Denise Jones, a friend of Ms. Carlisle and one of eight people who testified on her behalf, asking for leniency.

Ah ya… she has integrity alright…

Loved that Integrity line too. Wasn’t it Grubby Fingers Tawanda’s mother who once compared T’s ‘plight’ to battered women or Katrina victims? Can’t you see how the integrity (IE lying, cheating and stealing) has been passed down from one generation to the next?

It was a fur coat that got Denzel Washington in trouble in American Gangster, too. Sad.
