Shhhhhhh. It’s working.

This is not a lie.  These are facts.  Don’t tell them, but …

  1. The Buccos of Suckitude are one win away from .500 ball.  I think this is the fourth time this season that they’ve been close enough to see the stubble on the .500 mark.
  2. There are right this second 13 teams in Major League Baseball with W-L records worse than the Buccos of Suckitude’s.
  3. The Buccos of Suckitude are tied for fourth place in our division, but with their record, they would be in second place in both the National League West and the American League Central.
  4. We’re 14 out of 30 teams for hitting.
  5. We’re not last in anything.

I asked the Magic 8 Ball on my Facebook page if the Buccos of Suckitude will play .500 ball this season.  It said:

Grr.  I bet this has something to do with the impending doom of inter-league play.

I just want you to realize, every time the succos are within one game of .500 you right a post about them. Then they lose 5 straight. Thanks for the jinx.

If I’m not mistaken, there was one week where they made it to one game under .500 four times and then lost the next game, including a double-header where they made it to one game under then lost in the same day.

I looked it up. It was the week of May 12-18. http://www.post-gazette.com/pirates/pirates_sched.asp

actually, the succos are ranked 28th out of the 30 major league teams in overall pitching.

    not last, but definitely awful.

also — adam laroche is the worst in the majors when it comes to hitting with runners in scoring position. every game, it seems like he leaves a small village on base. if I were john russell, I would do what he did in yesterday’s game and sit laroche for a few games, maybe let him pinch hit — since it makes no sense to send him down to indy or try to trade him (hell, who’d want him?). why he keeps trotting him out there just about every game makes zero sense to me.

if the succos beat the o’s tonight in baltimore, we will be at .500 at the latest point in a season since 1999 — which would, sadly, effin’ blow me away.

btw — ryan doumit is a friggin’ stud: homers in 3 straight games, batting .365. maybe he could teach laroche how to look for a good pitch instead of chasing that outside corner shit.

So, Pittgirl. If they hit .500 are you going to hug a pigeon or something crazy like that?

I feel like there ought to be some sort of offering to thank the baseball gods.

while watching the game on Weds, the announcer said the Buccos outfield has the best combined batting average. Go Bucs!

just wait until we play the Yankees and the collapse begins as it always does after they kick out butts.

I will gladly self-unite with Ryan Doumit. For both his face AND his play–I’m such a mature baseball fan, it’s amazing.

Love it when they lose these ‘one game away’ games. Looking forward to it tonight!

(not really. Really I am hoping against all sanity that they win. Just don’t tell ’em, okay?)

Also, the Trib had a nifty graphic about how late (read: EARLY) in the season in the past fifteen years the Buccos have been at .500. Couple years? It was the fourth game of the season. Not even kidding. If we make it here, it will be the latest (read: it’s so early stilL!) in the season since 1999!

The Orioles are 32-33, so one of these teams will make it to .500 tonight. I grew up with the O’s, but I’ve been rooting for the Bucs since I moved here, so I am torn. All I can hope is for a good game, since it’ll be two crappy teams duking it out…
