Dear Sir Duke,

Psst. Hey, Benny?  I mean, excuse me, Sir Fuggy Duke?  C’mere.

Yeah, no.  Charlie Batch didn’t die.  He just got injured.  Just like you once did.  Just like Daniel did.

Stop being a melodramatic girlie man.

Shut up pitt girl…he’s showing his support for his team mates….something you would know nothing about!

*calls upon minions to desende on the Burgh Blog*

    Be nice to the minions!

Oh, minions. How I’ve missed you and our witty banter. Group hug!

I actually agree with the minions on this one. I thought it was a great gesture on Ben’s part.

    August 12, 2008 9:57 am

Oh, so that’s Batch’s number? I thought Ben had the number on his helmet to remind him what the age of consent is in Pennsylvania.

  5. Never a Minion
    August 12, 2008 9:58 am

13 is actually the age of consent in Pa.

  6. Pittsburgh Tom (in NJ)
    August 12, 2008 10:01 am

Actually it depends on the age of the other person, but since I was just trying to make a stupid joke at Ben’s expense, going into details would ruin the joke.

Aawww! That’s really sweet of him, seriously. I think Charlie’s one of his best friends on the team, so, that kinda makes sense. Plus, I’m not sure where coach Tomlin is getting 4-6wks from, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen an athlete come back in 4-6 from a broken collarbone, so, I think Charlie’s gonna be out a while. It’s okay though, b/c we now have the uber-healthy and reliable Byron Leftwich.

    August 12, 2008 10:18 am

geez, why didn’t he put a “98” on the side of his helmet last week when poor casey was struggling for his life on that stationary bike?

Haha! unsatisfied, that made my day.

So that’s how we get Ben to wear a helmet, you put a number on it.

  11. firefly88
    August 12, 2008 11:24 am

Say what you want, PG, but it was a nice tip of the helmet from Ben to Charlie.

And what may just be an injury to Charlie now, could become the end of his career as a Steeler if Leftwich turns out to be a great backup QB. Leftwich is younger than Charlie, who’s getting up there, and if the Steelers can only keep 3 QBs – well, obviously Benny stays and the coaches like Dixon’s play so far so Charlie could be odd man out.

Leave Ben alone you A-holes!! Ben is wear the number 16 in support of Batch. Him and Batch are good friends. If he wants to show his support then let him and stop try to find stupid things to make fun of him for doing.

  15. Joe

I have to agree with the minions on this one. PG, I think you’re just trying to stir things up a bit.

    August 12, 2008 12:48 pm

“HIM” and Batch are good friends?

I can embrace Pittsburghese, but “Minionese(?)” sounds awful!

I warn you – if we condone such grammar, I fear that our society is on a slippy slope.

  17. PittGirlSucks

Oh yessh now the a-holes are bitchen about our grammer whats next?

“Slippy slope” – Parking Chair, I wonder if anyone else caught that lil bit a Picksburghese yinz slid in ‘air ‘n’at.

They could also start “bitchen” about how you also can’t spell the word “grammar”.

  21. Ant Annie
    August 12, 2008 1:44 pm

Wow — I have to agree with PG on this one. Numbers/initials are worn on a uniform to honor a “fallen (read: dead) comrade.” I thought Charlie was just out with a busted collarbone. I didn’t know he died.

It always amazes me when people continue to read blogs or articles that piss them off and then comment and take it out on the author. Doesn’t anyone realize that PittGirl is being funny. I think it was a nice gesture on Ben’s part but it was still entertaining… I’m curious to see how fast people turn on him like Pittsburgh tends to do when their QBs start the decline in play, (Stewart, Maddox, hell even Bradshaw…) Ha!

  23. Pittsburgh Tom (in NJ)
    August 12, 2008 2:17 pm

Was that for Charlie Batch? I thought Mark Malone had died.

But seriously, I don’t think it’s wrong that Ben put the number on at training camp. It’s the game situation and official uniforms that should only involved the more serious tributes.

  24. pittgirl
    August 12, 2008 2:17 pm

Right, Joe. I just sit and and say, “Hmmm. How can I stir up some shit today?”

Hell no. I looked at the picture, immediately rolled my eyes all, “Oh, the drama.” and wrote exactly what I was thinking.

I give Benny his props when they’re due. This is not one of those times.

All I want to know is did Charlie wear Ben’s number on his helmet after the Great Motorcycle Incident? Just askin’.

“Oh yessh now the a-holes are bitchen about our grammer whats next?”

there’s always sentence structure and punctuation since spelling has been mentioned :)

Just wait until unsatisfied wakes up from last night’s bender and logs in. He’s a mean puppy.

PG, so you are saying that you did not think at all that there would be a reaction from the minions?

    P.S. Love the blog

actually, spoon — I think ms. “PittGirlSucks” said it all with her statements….

    now, pass the tylenol….

If you don’t like it, don’t read it. Those of us who enjoy Pittgirl’s blog for her honest humor don’t want to hear you bitching.

  30. Joe

To G-Lyn, the back-and-forth with some of the readers is one reason why I read the comments section. If everyone agreed with PG on everything, would the blog be interesting?

  31. Newbie

Same here. If it was always positive comments, then it would be boring, like watching the Fedko zone.

I attribute all this anger and bitching to the football season starting up in general. Pittsburghers are fiesty during Steeler season. I love it!!

    August 12, 2008 9:59 pm

pittgirl, word. i am a ben fan, always have been. i usually just chuckle at the comments against him. however, i had the same exact reaction as you when i saw the pic. i don’t want any premeditated “awwws” from my quarterback. i want him to study and kick ass. if this was a totally honest tribute, then more power to him, but i have an inkling (just my opinion) that more thought than that went into it. it’s like the person who does something for charity all the while only doing it so they will look better, not giving a crap about the actual charity. thats my take anyway…..but i love charlie and i hope he’s doing well. i’ve come in contact with styrofoam cups that are more sturdy than leftwich. i want charlie to come back strong and i want BL cut.

I’m with PittGirl. The minions can get bent.

P.S. Ben is one of the most overrated quarterbacks in recent memory. He’s the Grateful Dead of quarterbacks. The Dead mostly suck without weed, and Ben mostly sucks without a decent offensive line.

  38. Zsa
    August 13, 2008 10:08 am

As far as actual dead people who should be honored are concerned…are the Steelers going to have any sort of tribute to Myron Cope on their uniforms this year?

  39. Eric W
    August 13, 2008 12:05 pm

I’d like to see the Steeler logo replaced with a cartoon version of Cope’s face, ala Mad magazine.

Eric, are you by any chance a Stains troll?

  41. Summer
    August 13, 2008 2:05 pm

If we wants to be supportive, visit him. This is something that smacks of “look at me,” instead of “look at him.” Why is it so damn big?

And I don’t give a shit about football, so roll on, minions, roll on.

  42. Eric W
    August 13, 2008 3:49 pm

“Eric, are you by any chance a Stains troll?”

Stains? What/who? Google was no help.

I’m just a smartass. I only get trolly with sacred cow types with no sense of humor, such as Big Ben minions and Obama cultists. ;)

    August 13, 2008 3:51 pm

BTW, I was actually kinda serious about the Cope cartoon thing. If I really wanted to piss people off, I’d suggest a Myron McBeam mascot. ;)

-Since you think the Ravens will lose on Monday night, I am wondering if you can do me a favor. I am having a Mon nite party at my home in Baltimore, and I want to serve somthing special to eat. I have a world class recipe for crab soup.
I have ALL my money on the Ravens so I can’t afford to buy any old bay seasoning. I’am thinking – maybe you could send me Ron Cook’s wife’s panties, you know after one of her regular workouts. If I use those to strain the soup, I won’t need any old bay. Can you help me?
