And here I was hoping red pen mama meant she was a teacher, preferably English. Drat. And I tried other colors to correct during my long and at times glorious tenure in the classroom, but red always seemed to be the one that got the most attention.

Now THAT’S hot! Now I understand the “red pen” ref. I proofread with a blue pen, in the perhaps naive notion that the difference in color helps tamp down hostility toward my my always spot-on editing “suggestions.”
