That last big push …

(Rookie Club visits Children’s)

First, immediately after I typed the title of this post, I had recollections of giving birth and I passed out from residual pain. IT WAS THAT BAD.

Moving on … we are so close.  It has only been four days and you have donated almost $8,000!

At Mariachi Night, I told several people that I hoped we could raise the $10,000 by mid-January.  Mid-JANUARY!  I will never doubt you again, Pittsburghers, because not only have you donated, you have donated from all across the country.  Word from the Mario Lemieux Foundation is that donations have been received from the following non-Pittsburgh places:

  • San Diego, CA
  • Washington DC
  • Phoenix, AZ
  • El Paso, TX
  • Sarasota, FL
  • Omaha, NE
  • Wheeling, WV
  • Youngstown, OH
  • Arlington, VA
  • Marion, IA
  • Marietta, GA
  • Chicago, IL
  • Rock Hill, SC
  • Roslyn, NY
  • Baltimore, MD
  • Durham, NC
  • Enterprise, OR
  • Charlotte, NC
  • Rancho Cucamonga, CA
  • League City, TX
  • Birmingham, AL
  • Milwaukee, WI
  • Hammontown, NJ
  • Philadelphia, PA

Burghers far and wide!

Now that we’re nearing our goal, this is your chance to give if you haven’t already.  This is your chance to join us in buying this game room and these games for the kids.  When the game room is complete, when I post a picture of it, or when I post an email someday from a parent telling me how nice it was for their sick child to have a Nintendo DS to play with in bed, I want YOU to be able to say, “Wow.  I had a part in that.  I bought that for them.”

This is not my gift to the hospital any more than I could have taken credit if they had won the clicky-votey contest via Microsoft.  This is truly a collective gift from Burghers across the country.  Please donate if you haven’t already.  Even a tiny bit helps!

I also wanted to mention that Pittsburgh’s own Gift Therapist is donating $1.00 of every $1.99 download of her new book Shop Smart Give More.  The Gift Therapist actually has some kickass ideas for gifts.  For instance, her gift of threes idea is awesome as is her idea of baking someone food in a dish they get to keep.  Love that!  Her top 20 gifts of 2009 has some major winners in there (a drum t-shirt that works!), if you stab yourself in the eye every time you reach a Twilight-themed gift. SPARKLE SPARKLE SPARKLE.  You can purchase the download here, and like I said, $1.00 of that $1.99 is coming right back to Make Room for Kids.  Woo!

Finally, here’s an email that might give you a little nudge toward the general direction of your wallet.

I just wanted to tell you that what you are doing for children at CHP is amazing! my cousins 2 year old got diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in august and our family is still devastated! this is a whole family change in dynamics that i am still not sure how we are going to get through! One thing i can say is for kids little things make them so happy. he loves the playroom and the toys he can take in his room. he calls it the “hotel”. its because of people like you that sick kids smile. just wanted to say thank you for your efforts and i cant wait until you reach your goal!

Two years old and fighting stage 4 cancer. Heart punch.

Finally!  Don’t forget that when we reach $10,000 I’m going to scan in my NASA-themed high school senior picture.  Let me tell you, when I was at the Ti Kanaval event for the BRESMA orphanage, I told an 18-year-old boy/man?/man-child?  Anyways, I told him in detail what this picture involves and his EYES ACTUALLY ROLLED BACK INTO HIS HEAD FROM ALL THE DORKINESS I DESCRIBED TO HIM.

God help me.

I donated last night. I’m from Georgia, and even I know how important this is. DONATE! It’s super easy to look at it when you simply say, “I just won’t get Starbucks tomorrow.” SIMPLE.

First, immediately after I typed the title of this post, I had recollections of giving birth and I passed out from residual pain. IT WAS THAT BAD.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but you have TWO kids, right? So after all the insane pain you went back for seconds, which means you either have a really short memory or you REALLY loves you some schwing!

Two characteristics, I might add, that I appreciate in a woman.

Oh, and 2-year-old kids with terminal cancer make me question my belief in God. So do “parents” who whale on a kid so bad they put him in the hospital for two weeks (see today’s PG). I hope they’re given the traditional prison greeting accorded child molesters.

And just like that – over $8,300. Fantastic effort!!! I was going to donate more next paycheck but you’re going to hit $10,000 way before 12/15!!!

$8,300 in one week? Simply….wow! Good stuff. Good people. Big Hearts. Gotta Love ‘Burghers.

The proper term of reference for an 18-year-old male is “dude.”

I’m skipping on the Gingerbread Latte today and donating to Make Room for Kids. When my brother was born, he was in an incubator at Children’s for a few weeks. I was only 3 at the time, but I still remember seeing kids my age, even younger, in hospital beds and asking my mom why I couldn’t play with them.

And now you can add another VA town to your list! Thank you so much for organizing this, Ginny! It’s amazing to see what can be accomplished when people pull together like this.

I had the same plan as Stacey — more donated out of my next paycheck. I guess I’ll have to find another cause to give the unfortunately very small amount I was planning to give, since $10,000 will already be reached. Good going everyone!

If your butler can make your hologram come out of that thermometer, can you send him to my house to clean? Because clearly he’s magic.

as are you & everyone who is helping reach this goal. (I did a little more today. I was kind of hoping for another margarita night, but it looks like there’s no more time. I guess I’ll just have to go to Las Velas to have fun!)

I just donated this morning, not much, but as much as an in-debt college student with $30K left in tuition (and hopefully not more… lukey.) can. I’m from Philly, but I’m in school out here, and I don’t think that Philly would be able to pull together like Pittsburgh has done for this. Nothing against my hometown, we’re just really rude. Being in Pittsburgh has spoiled me! I’m used to people being nice now!!

I’m procrastinating studying for finals by watching the live tracker. I REALLY hope it reaches the $10K today.

Uncle Crappy: I was thinking that if we didn’t hit 10,000 tonight, I’d donate more and just eat ramen noodles till next paycheck but when I refreshed, the total showed $9,851. Wow!!! I’m proud to be a part of this effort!!!

    Your Majesty,

This blog brought tears to my eyes and I NEVER cry! I donated yesterday and figured I’d see that senior picture sometime next week, but I was wrong. Burghers really are amazing folk. Words cannot describe how honored I am to have made the Burgh my new home… and you rock, Ginny!!

    Big hugz!!
