I’d like to thank the Academy …

Boy, it has been a while since we’ve had a giveaway here at That’s Church.

I blame winter.

In fact, I’ve decided to blame all my troubles on winter.  I have a migraine.  Winter.  I’m having a bad hair day. Winter.  My kid dropped his DSi in the toilet and he’s going through the actual stages of grief, including crying himself to sleep each night until it is fixed or replaced.  Winter.

See how easy that is?

Thanks to the Pittsburgh Film Office, I’m giving away two tickets to their annual Oscar event, “Lights! Glamour! Action!” taking place Oscar Night, March 7, 2009 2010 at the August Wilson Center for African American Culture in downtown Pittsburgh.

As the lucky winner, you’ll receive two Gala Tickets which gets you in the doors via a red carpet arrival at 7:30 p.m. and includes drink tickets.

In addition, this is the language taken directly from the press release:

Come and share in the Oscar® night excitement as Lights! Glamour! Action!™ along with partner Moët & Chandon welcomes you with a red carpet arrival – and make sure to wear your finest if you want to win the best dressed award!

The evening features a screening of the live telecast of the Oscars® on the big screen and Moët & Chandon bubbly and themed champagne cocktails such as the Red Carpet Fizz, Gold, Envy and Ultimate Accolade.

Attendees will be entertained with live music from Pittsburgh’s premiere soul and funk Motown band, Soul Village, as well as an open bar and food stations from some of Pittsburgh finest restaurants and catering companies.  Participate in make-up sculpting demonstrations by the Douglas Education Center, or bid on items in a silent auction that features items from the film Twilight – New Moon, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal.

Now, full disclosure:  The film office emailed me to invite me and my husband to the event as their guests and I went back to the film office and said, “Oooh.  I’d LOVE to go and drink champagne, but can I please have two extra tickets to give to a lucky reader?”

And BAM!  Don’t nobody ever say I don’t love you.

Only problem is that, and I know women say this all the damn time, I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR. I might just go in costume so I can wear jeans.  Bo Duke, maybe?  Don’t say Daisy Duke.  IT IS WINTER.  I blame winter.

These tickets are $125 per person, so you’re winning a prize valued at $250!

In addition to lots of local VIPs, I’m told that Luke Ravenstahl will be there.  If you hear shouting, it might mean that Luke found me.  I’m totally going to ask him what color his underwear are.

The film office is still waiting to hear back if my future best friend David Conrad will be showing up, but he did donate a Ghost Whisperer DVD set to the silent auction along with an autographed head shot and poster, so you know where to find me during this event — either stalking David Conrad or, in his absence, licking the poster, and, once I win it, pressing it lovingly to my bosom while my husband rolls his eyes.

To enter, just leave a comment (one comment per email address) and tell me which movie you would most want to live out in real life if given the chance.  Notice this doesn’t necessarily mean your favorite movie, because The Titantic might be your favorite movie, but I really don’t think you want to freeze your ass off as you watch Leo DiCaprio sink beneath the surface of the icy ocean, do you?

Shit.  Did I just give the ending of that movie away? SPOILER ALERT!

Regardless, if I could live out one movie in real life, it would be the role of Watts in Some Kind of Wonderful.  Mostly because I’m pretty sure I’d be a kickass drummer and also, that scene where Keith realizes he loves her and chases after her and she’s all crying and “WHAT?!” and then he kisses her and [SIGH.] “You look good wearing my future.”

I know my husband’s answer would be the role of Rudy in Rudy.

What about you?  I promise I will not delete any valid comment, even if you respond with “Comment” or “TWILIGHT!  SPARKLE SPARKLE SPARKLE!”

I’ll use the email address you provide to notify you if you’ve won.

You have until 5:00 p.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, March 2 to comment at which time I’ll close comments and use Random.org to select the lucky winner.

Good luck!

I’m not really entering, I just wanted to tell you what an awesome giveaway! Unfortunately I’m preggy and have 2 toddlers so no babysitter, no drinking, no fancy clothes for me… boo! I hope you & the winners have an awesome time.

I’d like to live out Legends of the Fall on an awesome ranch in Montana. Not sure which character though, since all the male characters either die, get their hearts broken, or have strokes and get all crippled up…hmmmm.

Lots of great answers. I was all set to say EITHER Julie or Julia from the eponymous movie (or reverse that actually!) but then I saw Natalie in Love Actually (Hugh Grant, nom nom nom) and then I saw BBC Pride and Prejudice So I’d get Colin Firth and Regency Costumes. Or I could go with Bridget Jones and get both Hugh Grant and Colin Firth. Ding Ding Ding! Winner!

We are trying to rasie money to build a playground at Pittsburgh Minadeo. This would be a great item to have!

I want to live out Bridges of Madison County. I want to find that one perfect love. Love wouldnt have to last if it was that perfect for 3 days.

” I want to keep it forever. I want to love you the way I do now the rest of my life. Don’t you understand… we’ll lose it if we leave. I can’t make an entire life disappear to start a new one. All I can do is try to hold onto to both. Help me. Help me not lose loving you.”

It’s an ancient movie that no one has heard of, much less seen, but I would like to have been Tyrone Power’s character Marty Mahr in the “Long Grey Line”.

  25. Sarah

I would be Etheline Tennenbaum from the Royal Tennenbaums. She’s smart and for all of the chaos and crazy that’s in her life, she is so cool and collected! Not to mention she’s an archeologist which is pretty freaking cool!

Willy Wonka; The original. I think that movie is great for many reasons, which I will state. 1; I get to dress up silly 2; I get to act as if I were on a magical drug all day 3; I would hope to take part (after they (movie people )shot their scenes) and would eat all the candy- drink /eat the daffodil tea cups– They would find their star (me) in a sugar high — maybe I just want to be a set director on the movie now that I think of it.

    Sixteen Candles.

Why? Why not? Jake Ryan would be my boy. The Donger would be my co-pilot. I’d have a place to put my hand. I’d know where grandpa’s Auuttooomobbiiile was….Lake big lake.

I’d totally score some floppy disks from Bryce and Wease and end up in a CHURCH parking lot with Caroline Mulford.

I’d be invited to a wedding and see Ginny get maaheed to oily bohunk….Yeah maaheed.

I’d spin a great pizza record and top it all off by paying a buck to see some chick’s underwear and eat a birthday cake on top of a dining room table.

If I’m lucky next semester I’ll either get detention or make a girl on my computer and if I’m really, really lucky, by my senior year I beat William Zabka in a karate tournament or kick his ass at the beach during prom.

I want to live out “The Pursuite of Happyness” starring Will Smaith. Although I am not black nor am I a single father, I would love to accomplish my dream of becoming an award winning (Oscar winning that is) director no matter how many people tell me that I can’t do it or how many tough times I have to go through. I want to work just as hard as Smaith’s character to obtain his dream. I want to live out that final scene where the “Big Shots” tell Smith that he got the job…I want that feeling.

Maybe Eva Green character in Casino Royale. Daniel Craig is sizzling hot, but she dies to save him and I’m not that heroic…

So — Opposite Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy in P&P. He’s much less hot, but that HOUSE!!!

I’d like to be Reese in Sweet Home Alabama. She isn’t perfect but gets out of her little hometown and makes it. Then realizes where her heart is with her dreamy ex, who is secretly successful. I love the southern accent and the scene where she punches her soon to be left at the alter mother-in-law in the face!
