I’m so thrilled to tell you guys that apparently those Burghers over at the local Microsoft office believe in that whole “giving until it hurts” motto because thanks to additional donations by employees, paired with corporate matches on those dollars, they have now donated ALL 24 XBOXs needed for the transplant floor.
Not one single cent of your donations had to be used toward the in-room gaming consoles, leaving Mike and I a good chunk of funds to use toward the rest of the equipment we’re going to need to outfit the floor, particularly those Panasonic Toughbooks.
We’re still also looking into the handhelds and even, gasp, maybe some iPads for the floor! These kids are going to have technological doohickeys out the wazoo, is the technical term.
I’ll be announcing early next week the date that we will be delivering the XBOXs, games, controllers, and kiosks to the hospital with Microsoft and the Mario Lemieux Foundation. The games, controllers, and soon-to-be acquired laptops, handheld consoles and iPads will be kept secure on the floor in rolling carts donated generously by IKEA Pittsburgh.
I’m also hoping to bring with me Genre (pronounced Gen-ree) Baker of Genre’s Kids with Cancer Fund.
I say this a lot, but MORE SOON!
