A most yummy giveaway

WINNERS! Pittsburgh Magazine was kind enough to give me TWO sets of tickets. Random.org chose #2 and #141 as the winners. They have been notified.

Hear ye, hear ye!

I have in my hands (virtual hands, that is) a pair of tickets (virtual tickets, that is) to the Pittsburgh Magazine Best Restaurants Party taking place next Monday.

Here are the details:

Monday, May 24, 2010
6-8:30 p.m.
David L. Lawrence Convention Center

Pre-Registration: $95 Feb. 1, 2010 through May 21, 2010 at 4 p.m.
Registration at the door: $110 (unless sold out)

For the past four years, the Best Restaurants Party has SOLD OUT!

Basically what happens is you go and EAT FOOD FROM 60 DIFFERENT RESTAURANTS!

And it’s an over 21 event and that means psst liquor!

Food! Drink! Fun! Me!

My husband and I will be there, too, stuffing our faces full of delicious local cuisine. Me probably more than him because he has a thing called willpower and I have a thing called Cookiemonsteritis, that is, if you cook it, I will eat it.

This giveaway is valued at at least $190.

To enter, simply leave a comment and so you have something to say, tell me the best thing you’ve ever eaten at a restaurant.

Mine, and I’ll purposefully not say a dish from my own restaurant, is easily strawberry crepes from Cafe Zola in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

One comment per valid email address. Leave a comment before 4:00 p.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, May 19 at which time I’ll use Random.org to select the winning comment number.

See you at the party! I’ll be the carb-comafied, slightly tipsy chick with exploding buttons being carried out by her long-suffering husband.

Some big giant pile of seafood and rice noodles at some nameless place in Seoul when I was stationed in Korea. Plus garlic, seaweed, ginger, still not sure what all else.

Is it bad that my favorite thing ever from a resturant would have to be the Tuxeudo Cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory? Or can we count alcohol!? LOL

Can’t remember the best ever but the cinnamon chicken that I had at the 17th Street Cafe this past weekend was excellent.

Oh my goodness, how can you choose one?!

Since I can’t choose a food, I will choose a drink. It was some sort of ginger lemongrass martini at Wish at The Hotel in South Beach. According to their website, it is no longer on the drink menu. *sadface*

I love food so much I don’t know how I could ever choose one favorite.
Shrimp risotto on a little cafe in Paris is probably one of my favorites.
    I’m a mean-n-potatoes girl, though, and I love a good steak.

I’ll have to check out that place in Ann Arbor, I go there regularly for work.

There’s a place on Rt80 near Scranton that has the best filet ever. Then, they top it with lump crab meat and asparagus! Yummm. It’s called the Powerhouse Eatery.

That is a super tough question. :( The baked brie sticks out from fuel and Fuddle in oakland. I had it once and have wanted it again ever since.

Chicken tacos from Chipotles (yeah I probably spelled that wrong). It’s become an addiction. If I don’t get them once a week I go through withdrawl making me very, very grumpy.

The entire menu at Chops Grille onboard the new Royal Caribbean ship the Oasis of the Seas. The filet was certainly the best, but close second was the rack of lamb. The appetizers included crab cakes made with crab and shrimp and second up was the beefsteak tomato with blue cheese crumbles over purple onions. The desert was Mud Pie which was more like a chocolate mousse.

I do apologize for this not being something at Las Velas, but Compadres, a not-very-fancy Mexican restaurant in Meadville, PA, has the most fantastic dish called “Burritos Aztecas.” They have other good stuff, too, but whenever my fiance and I go up to Meadville we HAVE to stop there, make a show that we’re actually going to get something else, and then both get that. It’s three small burritos, one chicken, one cheese, and one beef, with red and green salsas and a cheese sauce served with guacamole and pico de gallo on the side. Pair it with one of their strawberry margaritas and I am in Mexican food heaven. Even though it’s barely past breakfast I already want them.

Of all the dishes I’ve eaten, I have to pick my favorite from close to home. Gorgonzola raviolis from Pizzutti’s in Shadyside. The dough is so tender and cooked to perfection and the tomato sauce is so simple yet so complimentary to the taste and texture of the cheese. I have had raviolis from far too many restaurants and these still are hands down the best I’ve ever had.

Very simple- the still warm from the oven Italian bread from Mancini’s in McKees Rocks spread with real butter.
Whenever we travel to Pittsburgh, it is almost a pilmigrace to go there, and we almost eat a whole loaf before driving away.

Other than that, the sausage, green pepper and onion pizza from Pepe’s in New Haven, CT, followed by a fresh cannoli (28 varieties to chose from- cannot make a bad choice) from Libby’s bakery next door.

(I am not Italian, but am obviously married to one!)
Now I am going to craving those things today with absolutely no hope of having any.
