Giveaway time!

WINNERS! Comments 35 and 68 were chosen by Random.org. Winners have been emailed.

Sorry no posting today.

I spent the day on the North Shore with some other local bloggers performing small acts of kindness for strangers. I’ll write more about that tomorrow.

First though, I have tickets to give away! Woo!

Have you ever heard of the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix? I learned recently that it’s not just one race event; its actually made up of bunches of smaller events leading up to the big race, and all of those events give their proceeds to charity.

I’m giving away four tickets to one of those pre-events.

The details!

1. Two winners will receive two free tickets to The Grand Prix Tuneup held July 21 at Bossa Nova from 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $35 each, so this giveaway is valued at $140.

2. The event features tapas, cocktails, and Johnny B and the Accelerators providing music. You can go here to see pictures from last year. CUTE. BABES.

3. Over 20 rare and unique cars will be on exhibit in front of Bossa Nova during this event. You’ll be able to meet the drivers as well!

4. Proceeds from this event benefit the Autism Society and Allegheny Valley School.

To enter, just leave a comment, one per valid email, and tell me what your first car was.

Mine was my “college car” used for trips to and from Texas, a blue piece of crap Mercury Tracer that had no air conditioning and that was possibly powered by gerbils in the engine. And then when you turned on the vent, the gerbils would stop cranking the engine and would turn around and blow hot air in your face. True story.

Go comment and good luck! You have until tomorrow, Thursday, at 5:00 p.m. to enter!

I, too, had Grandma’s Olds Cutlas Ciera, a 1986 model with the fake leather roof and velvet seats. Thing was a tank, and would drive in any weather. I used to go grocery shopping during snowstorms because nobody else would be there. Somebody actually stole this pile o poo from Troy Hill in 1995.

A maroon Buick Electra. At 16, I blew the engine out near Exit 66 on 279 in the morning on my way to high school and accepted a ride from a greasy guy who worked as a meat packer who drove me (unharmed) to the meat plant to use the phone…

Well, I’d like to say that my first car was the ’90 Mustang GT I bought, right out of college, but the truth would be that my “first” first car was a little ’84 Horizon that I (and then my brother) beat up during undergrad days…!

My car was a 1982 Olds Cutlass Ciera, that at one time had belonged to my grandmother, then my parents purchased it, then my uncle purchased it, and then I bought it, for the princely sum of giving my Super Nintendo to my cousin in exchange!

I loved it, but my parents then traded it in and I got handed their minivan…

My Mom’s old brown Chevy Citation circa 1982? What was even cooler was that she replaced it with a blue Citation, so we were like twins! Ugh!

First car that I drove was a 1972 VW Dasher station wagon. Let me tell you, all the women in my High school were impressed by my driving a 12 year old station wagon, let me tell you.

1994 Red Geo Tracker named George – after my grandfather. Dad had to drive it off the lot because I didn’t know how to drive a stick. I drove that little thing 115,000 miles, until the wheels fell off… almost literally. The hub assembly on the front passenger side wheel was about to give.

Mine was a 4-year old 1975 Buick Skylark. Silver with a red vinyl top and red velour interior. Nice chrome rims. Man that was an awesome car. Only had it for a year before I went off to the Navy then my little sister took it over. I miss that car.

1982 – Mine was a 1970 chocolate brown Dodge Duster that my dad used as a work car. It had so much bondo on it you couldn’t stick a magnet to it if you needed to find metal.

During this time, the hi-beam switch was a button on the floor that often got stuck. You had to kick it and then stomp it to turn the beams on an off. Floor was “thin” in spots, so water often came in.

Hey, it got me from point A to point B…

An ancient Ford Escort station wagon. I paid cash for it when I was in grad school. The left side door didn’t open and the battery randomly drained at inopportune times, frequently stranding me in random inconvenient places. Austin Powers was big at the time and my friends called it the Shaggin’ Wagon. Loved that car.

’73 Cutlass Supreme – 8 cyl, 4 barrel green gas hog..

Loved the rear wheel drive and sliding all over all the hills in Pittsburgh.

Got it up to 110 mph at one point (not recommended) but it was a great car.

For my 16th birthday (in 1987): 1978 Buick Regal, originally silver, but that was before they knew how to keep silver paint from oxidizing, so it was a nice dull gray, red cloth interior. 6 cyl, rear wheel drive – that car did more donuts in the high school parking lot than Dunkin sells in a month.
