Two rock things! [rawker kick]. Updated with embedded video!

1. This is the concert poster for the Dave Matthews Band’s recent concert at PNC Park.

LOVE the beautiful Burghiness of it, but man, way to give the pigeons ideas.

Remind me to stay away from the inclines, because being dropped into the Mon by a flock of pissed off pigeons would be a horrible way to die.

(h/t Andy)

2. This is a link to Mace Ballard’s video which was produced by the P-G for their Pittsburgh Rocks contest, which Mace Ballard won.

Do you need a two o’clock smile? Even if you don’t like this type of rock music, you’ll love the Pittsburgh-centric, lighthearted video produced by Steve Mellon and Matt Freed. Here’s the video embedded from Vimeo!

Gold star if you find Pensblog Charlie.

I prefer to think the birds are actually the falcons from the Gulf Tower (or whatever it’s called now).

  2. CrashJK Says:

Charlie says “DO IT !”….on the side of the ‘frig when he’s getting his wheaties…woot, what do I win ?!

  3. CrashJK Says:

check that…void “wheaties” insert “Captain Crunch” !!!

  4. BB Says:

whoa, that band rocks! i’d bet they name new found glory as an influence, hands down! /scrambles off to google band for listening pleasure!/

  5. spoon Says:

That was pretty good. Was this charlie’s first music video?

  6. bluzdude Says:

Those birds aren’t pigeons… they’re giant, mutant goldfinches.

Not sure how that makes it better though…

  7. Dash66 Says:

I was actually going WOOOOOOO! It’s Charlie… and that was before I noticed your line beneath the video saying to look for him!

  8. Mace Ballard Says:

If you’re into the video: you can go download the EP (including Goodbye Waves [song from the vid]) for free at http://www.wearemaceballard.com for your iPoddy pleasure… DownLoad & ListenUp!

If you are stoked on it: Altar Bar – 7.23.10 for a off-broadway rendition.

And we can’t say for certain if it is Charlie’s first, but we think it is his best cinematic work to date.

  9. Mark Says:

The Pirates tshirts from the Dave Matthews Band show were also very cool.

Does anybody know who the artist is who made the poster? I’d love to see more of their work.

  10. Ex-Pat Pittsburgh Girl Says:

Mark McDevitt and Robert Lee of Methane Studios in Atlanta are the artists. Go to their website: http://methanestudios.com/ and check out the poster archives. They’ve been the “unofficial” poster guys for DMB for years. The posters were each numbered and only 1,300 were made. Each was individually silk screened. I splurged and dropped the $35 for one and it is currently at the framers.

Cool video! I’ll bet you’re too young to remember the song “Poisoning Pigeons in The Park.” It was done by Tom Lehrer and some of the lyrics went like this, “All the world seems in tune
    On a spring afternoon
When we’re poisoning pigeons in the park …”

I think you would have liked it! :)

I’m a fan of anyone that incorporates Nadine’s into anything.

  13. Butcher's Dog Says:

The Lehrer song is on an album entitled “An Evening Completely Wasted with Tom Lehrer”. He was a member of the troupe that did the short-lived but hilarious TV series That Was The Week That Was (aka TW3). Check it out sometime.

  14. Uncle Crappy Says:

Yeah, they did a nice job with that poster. Did you see the one from the Wilco show at CMH in Oakland last spring? It’s a little more subtle, but I think it works:

  15. Still A Fan Says:

can we please never ever say the words “rock” and “dave mathews band” in the same sentence again please?

i may be in the minority here, but when I hear DMB i think of donkeys going “HE haaaw” and guys in the crowd who wear long sleeve white dress shirts with baseball hats and shorts complete with braided belts.

and maybe loafers with no socks……

not that i’m judgmental. i’m just mental.
