Don’t let the door smack you in the suck on your way out.

John Russell is supposed to be fired today after the Pirates finished their season yesterday with their 105th loss.

105. A buck five. ONE ZERO FIVE.

Their worst since 1952.

105 times they’ve gone into the clubhouse as losers.

In the year when I said they were going to be winners, they performed their worst in almost six decades. Which doesn’t bode well for my prediction that the Steelers will be in the Super Bowl this year.

Either way, John Russell is likely on his way out. Do you know what this means? Finally, FINALLY, the Pirates have made a good decision!

This calls for … THE DANCE OF JOY!

Please don’t make any Penguins predictions.

What are the chances that they will hire that manager from Altoona? I hope they just don’t recycle some manager from another team.

And their 2011 season opener is on April Fool’s Day. How perfect.

Firing Russell is the absolute equivalent of rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. It will have ZERO effect (+ or -) on the suck that is the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Do you think they could make it a really good and take Huntingdon with him?

I questioned the hiring of John Russell when he got the job, however holding him responsible for the Pirates inneptitude is insane. You could have put the Pope in that dugout and the results would have been the same. I’m just sayin’.

In a similar move, my engine light came on, so I replaced the gas cap. That should take care of things.

Rumor has it that they are looking at hiring Eric Wedge, former manager of the Indians. Makes sense since that’s Huntington’s old team.

#8 I would have loved to see the Pope managing from the dugout. That high hat he wears for special occasions would have been a great distraction.

@carpetbagger — with a car, a lot of times that really does solve the problem for a solid check engine light. A flashing light, however, is another matter altogether.

Good thing they fired the manager from Altoona, since there was no openings in the organization for him.

This whole organization is a joke and the punchline is all the fools who keep giving them their money expecting nothing in return.

This is just another ‘show’ decision by an organization that doesn’t care about winning. Its not John Russell’s fault that the Pirates are fielding a AAA team AT BEST. You can only do so much with the talent that you have. If the team can’t compete in the MAJORS then Pete Rose, Tommy Lasoda, etc, wouldn’t have done any better. But the Pirates wanted to come out today and make a statement that losing 105 games won’t happen again. When I call shenanigans because they keep saying that next year will be better and its only gotten worse. Best of luck, John. Consider yourself lucky that you can escape this pitiful team.

I used to think the manager didn`t matter. That this team was so bad that any manager would lose alot of game. But this team was good enough to go 40-41 at home. The difference between the home & away record seems like something the manager should take responsibilty for and taken steps to fix. The team would have still been a loser with another manager, but I think they could have avoided 100 losses with the right manager.
