Ticket Giveaway

UPDATE:  The winning comment # was 99 belonging to reader Rachel. She has been notified.

Good Monday morning!

Yes, I’m aware that’s an oxymoron, especially in the dead of winter, but I’m nothing if not dedicated to expected social courtesies.

So, good freaking Monday morning, Burghers.

Let’s start this good Monday morning off with a giveaway, shall we?

What: Two tickets to the Bach Choir of Pittsburgh’s production of Sweeney Todd.  Official language: “Perhaps the most widely-acclaimed of the works of Stephen Sondheim, performances will be presented in a semi-staged version using the levels and nooks and crannies that abound in the Hazlett Theater. The choral writing in this seminal work ranges from Greek chorus commentary to full-blown chaos and terror. The characters bring this dark comedy to life, and the setting will be perfect to show off the Bach Choir soloists and ensemble.”

The Bach Choir should do a singing flash mob somewhere in Pittsburgh, don’t you think?

When: You choose which show you want to see: Saturday, January 15 – 8:00pm  or Sunday, January 16 – 4:00pm

Where: New Hazlett Theater on the North Side. Love this theater. So intimate. It’s where David Conrad staged Burn This and took his clothes off and I got to see him in his underwear.

I’m sorry. I need a minute.

That was a good day.

Tickets: Purchased from here are $25 each, so this giveaway is valued at $50.

Enter: Just leave a comment. One comment per valid email address and so you have something to say, tell me, because it’s driving me crazy, is it Steeler Nation or Steelers Nation?

Do NOT tell me which one is grammatically correct, because for instance, the plural form of tiger is tigers, but if you were in the jungle, you might whisper to your companion, “Be on your guard. We’re entering tiger territory.” See?

Just tell me what you call the unofficial Steelers fan base.

Wikipedia says Steeler Nation. I say Steeler Nation. The Post-Gazette says Steelers Nation. I asked on Twitter and while the majority said Steeler Nation, there were a good number that said Steelers Nation.

Now I’m confused.

What do you think?

You have until 12:00 noon tomorrow to comment at which time I’ll pick a winner via Random.org.

Good luck and good Monday morning.

    Steeler Nation for sure!

(Also I love Sweeney Todd…so thanks for alerting me to this because I’ll probably go even if I don’t win!)

I think AP Style would technically say Steelers Nation, but would you ever call someone a Steelers?

The Post Gazette has a “Steeler Nation” website: http://steelernation.sites.post-gazette.com/

Both would make sense, really. But Steeler Nation just sounds better – more unified, really, then a bunch of Steely McBeams running around and overtaking a nation. Because that would NOT be cool.

I will 83rd the sentiment, Steeler Nation.
Crap, why doesn’t my spellcheck recognize Steeler? Wow, it doesn’t recognize spellcheck either. Interesting.

Steelers Nation? Really? I think someone at the Post-Gazette spent six years in journalism school and spend all of their time learning grammar rules instead of watching sports, and is now pissed because they spend their days writing about the sports they never watched and will never enjoy.

    Steeler Nation FTW.

    According to Mike Tomlin:

“If given the opportunity, I would play at Heinz Field in front of Steeler Nation, no question.”

I classify myself as a Steeler Fan, not a Steelers Fan. I don’t know why. It just sounds better. Hence, Steeler Nation is comprised of a multitude of Steeler Fans. But then again, I must be wrong because Charlie Daniels says “Don’t lay your hand on a Pittsburgh Steelers Fan”…..so who knows what’s right!

    Steeler Nation

My main rationale for this is that it is what I’ve always said, heard, or saw but I’ve thought of another.

You wouldn’t say “elephants herd”, if you identified yourself with a large group of elephants. You’d say, “Oh,me? I’m with that elephant herd over there.”

    A) It’s totally “Steeler Nation.”
    B) It would make my century to win the tickets and be able to have an excuse for a date out with my husband. I am a mother of 4. I need a friggin’ break.
