At last my love has come

How long ago was it that I first wrote “Pittsburgh is the new Hollywood?”

Let me check.

Here we go, April 2010.

Now that Tom Corbett has reinstated the film tax credits, and while we’re waiting for official word that Batman is coming, news today that two movies are headed to the new Hollywood.

One is called “Still I Rise” via Walden Media, whose executive Mylan Stepanovich is from McKeesport.

Leads haven’t yet been cast, but it will shoot in May.

The other is the film adaptation of “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” and while most of you are probably going to be all agog that Emma Watson of Harry Potter fame is the star, I’m more freaking out over this:

Lianne Halfon and Russell Smith will produce it via their Mr. Mudd productions banner, and John Malkovich will executive produce.

YOU GUYS!!!!!!!

EXCLAMATION POINT FRENZY FOR JOHN MALKOVICH!!!!!!!!!!!!

I seriously love John Malkovich. I became a fan after his turn as the scientist/robot in Making Mr. Right and have stayed a fan ever since.

The man has a way of being incredibly sexy … no matter what.

I realize some of you just tried to reach through your monitor to put your hand gently on my forehead to see if I’ve indeed come down with some sort of raging, brain-eating fever that would cause me to hallucinate that John Malkovich is sexy.

I’m completely healthy. And find John Malkovich’s utter and complete surrender to whatever role he takes on to be beyond sexy.

The good news is he might be in Pittsburgh to aid and abet my stalking practices.

The better news is that I bet I’ll be the only one stalking him.

Take your Hermione. My Stalk-o-Meter is calibrated for this:

I love Malkovich because you can tell that he is always having the most fun out of anyone in the cast of any movie he’s ever in. He’s an absolute blast in ROUNDERS (the poker movie with Matt Damon and Ed Norton)

Nyet! Nyet! No More! No! Not tonight! This son of bitch, all night he, “Check. Check. Check.” He trap me!

You are totally sane, because JOHN MALKOVICH ROCKS. That’s the Croatian (Dalmatian) blood – believe me … I am a specialist on that one.

I am so happy the “Pittsburgh is the new Hollywood” thing is not dying and the tax program is ON again.

    TERRIFIC NEWS :)

It could be weirder. You could be like the colleague of mine who goes all panty-thrower for Yanni. Which, NO.

The first thing I think of when I see John Malkovich’s name is the actor (whose name I don’t remember) who totally channeled Malkovich in the movie “Bait”.

I liked Malkovich in “Red”, though. I guess I should see “Being John Malkovich” sometime.

He’s been in a bunch of award worthy movies, but I swear I loved him as “Cyrus the Virus” in “Con Air.”

Julie, thanks for the reminder! Totally forgot he was in that too.

I totally get the John Malkovich thing. Ever since “Dangerous Liaisons.” He plays a horrible human being, and he’s so magnetic, so sensual, that you’re rooting for him, even when he’s doing something depraved. Wow, that’s uncomfortable. Very very hot.

    Showtime,

You described it perfectly. It was like in “In the Line of Fire,” he was evil and I didn’t want him to succeed at killing the president, but if he did, maybe the president was a real jerk, you know?

Like you said, very uncomfortable feeling. But very very hot.

Sorry. He really gives me the creeps in a really creepy way. “Being John Malkovich” was a very strange, yet pretty good movie though.

Oh, I’m so glad those credits were reinstated. I have several friends who have been working in “the new Hollywood” for a long time.

I think Malkovich is sexy, too, in certain roles. I mean, he’s an actor, thus, in sexy roles (see Dangerous Liasons) he brings the sexy IMO. I recently saw him in RED, which was great fun, and Malkovich brings teh crazy. Like I said, Fun!

Malcovich is Croatian??? So THAT’S where the sexy comes from! It was Dangerous Liaisons that did it for me. I was too distracted by Katherine Keener in Being John Malcovich to pay him much mind in that flick though (my gay is showing…).

I don’t go all panty-thrower for Malkovich but I do for Alan Rickman. Snape. So I understand where you are coming from!

Makes no sense to give tax breaks to fortune 500 global multi media conglomerates that have to proven to be parasites. The second you rescind the tax breaks all that talk about how awesome Pittsburgh is goes out the window and they are off to the next highest bidder just like they did in the late 80s and early 90s. But local small businesses who have stuck it out for a half a century or more employing real Pittsburghers day in and day out, or young entrepreneurs who would like to make a go of it here rather than silicon valley cannot even carry a loss forward to offset their tax bill. Yeah that’s brilliant

I would like to join the stalking group! I also developed a HUGE crush on him when I saw “Making Mr. Right”.

And Rachel, I’m in total agreement with Alan Rickman too, and just about lost it when he was here for “Dogma”.

Without the crush part, I agree re Malkovich…he’s fantastic. Still think my favorite is the late 80s classic, “Dangerous Liasons”, which also has the excellent Uma Thurman. Topless scene….bonus.

Know plenty of giggly girls who love him only because of making mr right. What a chick flick. He is a fine actor I guess but c’mon chicks dig him because they recall the endowment of Mr Right.
    Right?

I can’t believe Pgh is a movie mega. I recall the first? of these shot in emsworth. It was not memorable or noteworthy but I guess started things rolling.

Checking Dangerous Liasons now. Itty Bitty Titty Committee I suspect.

The Malkovich love is lost on me (sorry), but I’m happy “Perks of Being A Wallflower” (one of my favorite books from high school) is going to be filmed in the city it was set. The Fort Pitt Tunnel scene can’t be done anywhere else.

    Oooohhh SNAPE!! Yes!

Also loved Rickman in Die Hard and in Sense and Sensibility, English snaggle-teeth and all. He has the same insinuating quality I like in Malkovich, but Rickman’s less feline (i.e., more manly).

Hmmm, I love me some bad boys…

    HorseShoeBend,

Do you know who Uma Thurman is? Itty bitty titty committee she is not….quite the opposite. Huge tracts of land.

More love for “Dangerous Liaisons,” where everyone in it (including Keanu Reeves, no joke) was great.

And if you’re talking about Alan Rickman I have only five words–“Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.” Dear God, I had to cross my legs in the theater watching him rip scenery as the Sheriff of Nottingham, he was a ROCK STAR in that movie.

    @astroidb612
John Malkovich is born in the US, but his family is Croatian and he spends a lot of time in Croatia. He is a regular in Dubrovnik in the summer and he owns some property over there as well.

Alan Rickman: FANTASTIC – I am in that fan club as well :)
