It’s been some years since I’ve seen Cirque du Soleil perform, but I still remember so distinctly my thoughts during the show:

OMG.

WTF?

HOW?

NO WAY.

Ouch.

OUCH.

Seriously, how do they bend like that? Hold that pose while hoisting five other men? Throw that? Balance that? Do that? Become that?

There always comes a point in a Cirque du Soleil show that I decide this is the year I get me a six-pack of abs and maybe the ability to spin a hula hoop on my pinky finger while somersaulting the hell out of some somersaults. Then the lights come up and I go, “That was awesome. Also, I could go for some carrot cake.”

This year, Cirque du Soleil is coming back to Pittsburgh and when they invited me to the media preview I said of course I want to go, but I need two tickets to give to my readers too because I LOVE THOSE GUYS.

So, if you’d like the chance to win two tickets to the May 17 showing of Cirque du Soleil, wish granted.

What: Two tickets to Cirque du Soleil’s new touring show TOTEM, describes as thus:

TOTEM traces the fascinating journey of the human species from its original amphibian state to its ultimate desire to fly. The characters evolve on a stage evoking a giant turtle, the symbol of origin for many ancient civilizations.

Inspired by many founding myths, TOTEM illustrates, through a visual and acrobatic language, the evolutionary progress of species.

Somewhere between science and legend TOTEM explores the ties that bind Man to other species, his dreams and his infinite potential.

When: Tuesday, May 17 at 8:00 p.m.

Where: In the Strip District under the Grand Chapiteau at 20th and A.V.R.R.

Value: $130.00

How to enter: Leave a comment in the comments section, one comment per valid email address and so you have something to tell me, tell me what’s the one physical ability you wish you excelled at or at the very least, were capable of doing without looking like a pregnant three-legged rhino.

Springboard diving?

Salsa dancing?

Plate spinning?

Tumbling?

Tight rope walking?

Me? Even though I’ve never successfully executed a cartwheel in my life, I think I’d like to be a trapeze artist. Flying through the air like that, waiting for someone to catch you on the other side? What a rush.

Tell me yours. If your comment goes to spam, punch your keyboard so hard the E key stops working.

No, don’t do that. You know the drill. I’ll fish ’em out and repost them for you.

You have until noon on Thursday, April 28 to get your comment in at which time Random.org will pick the winning comment number.

If you don’t win, BONUS!

Ticket discount offer: If you’re in the market to buy tickets, which by the way, heck of a Mother’s Day present idea, you can click here for their Mother’s Day offer for Pittsburgh.

Celebrate Mom with a thrilling Cirque du Soleil experience! Treat your mother to a memorable Cirque du Soleil experience by taking advantage of our special offers on show tickets—bring your family of four to a show for only $131!

Maybe I’ll see you there.

I’ll be the chick with carrot cake icing on her lips and a burning desire to do a cartwheel in her heart.

I wish I could do a backflip – I have absolutely no chance of ever accomplishing this, but still, it would be fun.

I have always been afraid of heights, so if I could conquer that fear and be a tight-rope walker, that would be awesome! :)

A back handspring. And then another and another-all the way across a stage.

I wish I could dance en pointe. I took ten years of ballet and another year as an adult, but I have bad knees and flat feet. I tried a year of pointe as a teenager but could never get away from the barre. (I also wish I had the dancer’s body to go with the dancer’s skill!)

I’m the most athletically challenged person that I know. I just want to be able to hold my own at some sort of physical activity. Ping pong maybe? I can’t hurt myself playing ping ping, right?

I wish I could do a cartwheel. Never been able to do one….never will be able to do one. :)

you nailed it. cartwheel for me. never did one in my life, which is why CDS is so damn fascinating on every level. Would love to take my under-appreciated wife and mother of my children to something we couldn’t otherwise afford. Bonus would be that my lack of physical prowess would be the reason I posted. Gotta love the irony in that.

I wish I had some level of coordination. I brush my teeth and give myself a black eye.

Gymnastical things, back flips, front hand springs, jumping and flipping over small children, you know…

Put a one inch thick, three inch diameter black rubber disc into a six foot wide, four foot high area when my team has one more person on the ice than the opposing team. Coincidentally, I also wish a certain team with a flightless water fowl on their jersey’s had this ability as well.

Dancing with the Stars dancing. Since I just got hooked on that stupid show, I’ve been thinking of how I can do that. I tried in the kitchen last night and I almost threw my back and hips out and then demolished the kitchen in one crash. The dogs enjoyed my show very much so that was good.

I’d be happy to be able to walk up or down my steps without falling/tripping. I guess it’s because I bounce or run down them more than walk. My family always blames it on growing up in a ranch-style house…I never needed to master the stair walking skill.

Juggling would be a fun talent to learn, but growing up an avid tree climber, I always wanted to try Parkour.. Being a little older and more reasonable, I’ll settle for climbing trees and on roofs to trim tree limbs around the house…

I wish that I could do gymnastics. Back flips, uneven bars with really cool dismounts, etc. I can barely get up from a sitting position anymore… :(

I wish I could run better…or swim better…or ice skate. Apparently I’m just completely uncoordinated!

I wish I could do a backbend. Once when I was 8 I spent the entire day outside practicing. By hour 10, I could do one. Woke up the next day and the ability was gone.

I consider myself athletically inclined, but never could golf. I work in an industry surrounded by men who golf and talk about it ad nauseum. I wish that one morning, I would wake up, go to the golf course where they were all sucking in their guts and bragging about what they hit on the front 9 the day before, and kick every single one of their asses. Even if I never could golf again, it would be worth it for just one day.

Growing up I could never do a back hand spring and was very upset about it. Now, I’m pretty sure I can’t even do a backbend, although now I might have to try……. This could end badly.

I wish I could play ball sports. When they were handing out bat to ball, foot to ball, racket to ball skills, I must have been out chasing around some cute little animal. Because if you want a good laugh come watch me try to participate in any sport involving a ball.

I wish I could ski. I have tried twice, but ended up riding the lift up, falling flat on my face, then taking off my skiis and walking down the hill. Pretty hard in those stupid boots!

I would honestly like to be able to just be active normally – doing some strenuous exercise, maybe doing rock climbing or something. It’s often really rough for me, so that would be great!

I tend to think that I am far more coordinated than I truly am. Sometimes I wish I were like a cool Secret Agent, capable of leaping over obstacles and performing cool body rolls and scaling walls. But in reality when I attempt my “parkour,” for example leaping over a barrier on my run through the park, usually ends in pain and scraped knees and twisted ankles.

But if it’s a circus skill then I totally want to be a lion tamer…chair and all.

Ballet. I love ballet. But my mother wouldn’t let me take lessons when I was a kid. She almost killed me when I took Ballet I in college. (She should have let me get it out of my system as a kid, it would have been much cheaper than six credits at a private, catholic college!)
