Kennywood Ticket Giveaway!

Oh, how we have discussed Kennywood on this blog over the years.

We’ve talked about Potato Patch fries, that gosh darn fat-splaying Rotor, that piece of hell Pitt Fall, that small child-ejecting Jack Rabbit.

I know the Jack Rabbit doesn’t actually eject small children, but it sure feels like it when you’re a small child lifting six inches off of your seat to the delight of your parent who was once a small child being ejected from the Jack Rabbit.

Generation after generation of small children hitting the double dip all “SON OF A MOTHER.”

My new favorite things at Kennywood are called Deep Fried Oreos. They are as nutritious and low-fat as they sound.

The next time I go, I’ll be trying a deep fried Rice Krispies treat, which probably contains marshmallows which I like to think of as dairy. Calcium. Healthy.

I’m going to write a diet book. Eat What You Want; Buy Bigger Clothes.

Best seller right there.

I’ve digressed. Kennywood is as Pittsburgh as a Primanti’s (also good for you) and I’m giving away four tickets, provided by Kennywood. A perfect way to end your summer with your family!

What: 4 Ride All Day passes to Kennywood Park

To Enter: Leave a comment, one comment per valid email address. You have until Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. to enter at which time I will have select the winning comment number. If your comment goes to spam, take your IP address on the Jack Rabbit and eject that sucker on the double dip. I kid. Just chill and I’ll periodically retrieve them from spam.

So you have something to say, tell me what your favorite part of Kennywood is. Is it people watching? The Phantom’s Revenge. The double dip of the Jack Rabbit? The parades?

Good luck! Also, remind me to tell you about the time the Thunderbolt ejected my hearing aid from my ear.

That was special.

And expensive.

Back in the day when they had a haunted house and I was still in grade school I loved the challenge of finding a girl to ride with me. If I lucked out and found someone it was the best feeling in the world of being in the dark with someone from the opposite sex!

I used to love the old Noah’s Ark when you entered through the whale’s mouth. However, in today’s age, I would say that I love people watching, while eating Potato Patch fries!

I could ride the Thunderbolt all day if they let me. I also miss the Big Dipper. Remember that one?

I for one am sad that the Pit Fall may be going away. I totally love that ride and would love to get one more chance to ride it.

It used to be the rides, now the car ride home is more satisfying.

But, for me, I go for the food.

Watching my 4 year old raise his arms to the sky and scream with joy when he rides the Jackrabbit… or the Paratrooper… or the Log Jammer…

Oh yeah, and there’s people watching. An amusement park in the middle of the Mon Valley that’s not too far from WV / Fayette County? Comedy gold.

    1. The plastic batting helmets you could win at the fast pitch game.

    2. Hitting puberty while standing near the exit of the Log Jammer.

    3. Those little fruit drink grenades we used to get at the school picnic.

Thunderbolt, hands down. I ride it at least 5 times every visit (yeah going tomorrow woooo!)

And I miss the Laser Loop. I know its kinda lame, but that was the first conquering my fears coaster I ever rode.

Favorite part: Fiance and I riding the Merry-go-Round as the last ride of the night when they play the last song before closing. It has become a little tradition for us.

I realized a week or so ago that my (super-tall) daughter, at the tender age of 22 months, is tall enough to ride the Jack Rabbit. My first thought? Hell, no! My second thought? If we go to Kennywood, does that mean that I get Potato Patch fries? I may overlook the fact that my kid was just catapulted from the Jack Rabbit . . .

I love the tunnel on the way in, no matter what age everybody jumps or reaches up to touch the ceiling.

Ride: Thunderbolt at night, front seat- no other way.

I remember getting to buy a new outfit for the school picnic and it being a mom & daughter day. I loved the jack rabbit the most growing up!

I wish I could “like” some of the comments above. They bring back great memories of school picnics, and Polish Day with my grandma and aunts. I still do love the Jack rabbit double dip and people watching if you can get a bench by the lagoon.

As I have gotten older and the rides don’t appeal to me as much, I tell everyone that I am going to ride the Potato Patch, the Funnel Cake and the pizza. My 3 favorite rides at Kennywood.

The smell….I know it sounds strange, but Kennywood has a distinct smell. It is the mix of cotton candy, popcorn, Potato Patch fries, funnel cake and the oil used on the rides.

Favorite thing at kennywood: the thunderbolt. It’s not close. Most of my favorite memories involve winning stuffed animals. Thanks to the crane games at the arcades, I won over 30 stuffed animals on a few occasions.

My favorite part of Kennywood is thinking about the stories my grandma used to tell my sister and I about the school trips she took there as a little girl in the 1920s Now when I go, I cannot help but get a little emotional at Noah’s Ark.

Kennywood holds a very special and prominent place in my memories.Kiddieland with its miniature rides gave me my first thrills while I waited (impatiently) to grow to be as tall as Howdy-Doody and be able to go on the “real” rides. I still remember my first adventure on the “Little Dipper”. It seemed I would never be tall enough to look Henry in the eye and be allowed to ride with the “Big Kids”. Then, miraculously, one day my dreams came true and I found myself experiencing the Jack Rabbit’s legendary Double-Dip and the amazing view from the heights of the Pippin! Life was good!

It is not one particular ride that is my favorite, it is the atmosphere when it finally gets dark and all of the lights come on. Even being in my late 20’s now, it just feels magical.

My favorite part of Kennywood is just being there and seeing the park through my daughter’s eyes. She talks about going to Kennywood constantly and since we are out of town and visit Pittsburgh once a month, she can’t wait until it’s Kennywood month. Every time we go we have to bring about a dozen Kennywood maps home so she can look over them in the off-season! It was magical for me when I was her age and now it’s magical for her.

My favorite part of Kennywood is the Jack Rabbit just because my 8 year old who’s afraid of EVERYTHING loves it! Sadly, I’ve never been to Kennywood (recent Pittsburgh transplant, don’t flame me!), but 8 year old and hubby have. So I would love to win the tix so we all could go together!
