Kennywood Ticket Giveaway!

(We’re nearing the reveal of the first awkward picture! Donate a few bucks to Genre’s Kids with Cancer if you can by clicking the button in the sidebar!)

Oh, how we have discussed Kennywood on this blog over the years.

We’ve talked about Potato Patch fries, that gosh darn fat-splaying Rotor, that piece of hell Pitt Fall, that small child-ejecting Jack Rabbit.

I know the Jack Rabbit doesn’t actually eject small children, but it sure feels like it when you’re a small child lifting six inches off of your seat to the delight of your parent who was once a small child being ejected from the Jack Rabbit.

Generation after generation of small children hitting the double dip all “SON OF A MOTHER.”

My new favorite things at Kennywood are called Deep Fried Oreos. They are as nutritious and low-fat as they sound.

The next time I go, I’ll be trying a deep fried Rice Krispies treat, which probably contains marshmallows which I like to think of as dairy. Calcium. Healthy.

I’m going to write a diet book. Eat What You Want; Buy Bigger Clothes.

Best seller right there.

I’ve digressed. Kennywood is as Pittsburgh as a Primanti’s (also good for you) and I’m giving away four tickets, provided by Kennywood. A perfect way to end your summer with your family!

What: 4 Ride All Day passes to Kennywood Park

To Enter: Leave a comment, one comment per valid email address. You have until Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. to enter at which time I will have select the winning comment number. If your comment goes to spam, take your IP address on the Jack Rabbit and eject that sucker on the double dip. I kid. Just chill and I’ll periodically retrieve them from spam.

So you have something to say, tell me what your favorite part of Kennywood is. Is it people watching? The Phantom’s Revenge. The double dip of the Jack Rabbit? The parades?

Good luck! Also, remind me to tell you about the time the Thunderbolt ejected my hearing aid from my ear.

That was special.

And expensive.

I have never been so I can’t say what my favorite part is. Obviously, it would be extra cool if I won the tickets so I could check it out.

I love EVERYTHING about Kennywood, but I get nostalgic when I think about Noah’s Ark!

My favorite thing about Kennywood is the sense of community and family. Maybe its because it doesn’t attract as many tourists as other places do, but it just seems like you always know people when you go to Kennywood. I haven’t been there in a long time, I miss it! Oh, and the food. LOVE the food!!

    What I love about K-Wood:

The ethnic themed days during the summer! I have attended Serbian day every year since I can remember.

Serbian day…what’s not to love about seeing a whole pig roasting on a spit and your grandma chasing you around with the pig brain?

I moved to Columbus, Ohio 11 years ago and I miss Kennywood! My husband (a California native) fell in love with the park, too, and the last time we were there was for our 1st anniversary in 2005. It’s been too long!!!!

Memories…and the fact that because I worked at Kennywood, I have been happily married to my husband for 5 years and have two beautiful children. If I hadn’t have spent that time there….

I took my daughter to Kennywood in June and she still talks about the Pirate Ship. It caused her belly to tingle!!!

You should change your book to: Eat What You Want; Convince Yourself its Healthy.

The little roller coaster in Kiddy Land – the Lil’ Phantom. I loved seeing my 6 ft 4 inch husband squeeze into a seat with our screaming girls….when it was over it was he who was screaming in pain. That thing really jerks you around! Needless to say this is one of the MANY memories we cherish about Kennywood.

I second number 211 and say the Whip. That is the ‘mostest funnest’ ever! I am scared of heights, but I could ride that all day (and just might if I win the tickets).

The turn on the Thunderbolt, in which the passenger on the right side of the car literally flies across the seat, thrusting his or her elbow directly into the exposed rib cage of fellow rider. Priceless.

The Phantom’s Revenge! Gotta ride it first before anything else when you get to the park, and then again last before you go!

My favorite part of Kennywood is Old Kennywood, where the big giant swing is, and the Pittsburgh Plunge. But in all honesty, the best part about Kennywood is the tradition. It’s certainly not the best park around (Busch Gardens sells beer, for one thing), but it’s ours.

I remember feeling sorry for a “bigger” teen who couldn’t fit the Steel Phantom. I was right behind him in a long line, watching him get excited and then having a major let down. How bad he must have felt.

The Bayren Kurve! I used to drag my dad on that thing again and again. 30 years later, the blasting horn still gives me chills! I was so excited when they brought it back a few years ago so my daughter can experience it.

My favorite part of Kennywood has always been when it’s getting dark and all the ride lights come on. Love it! And there’s nothing more thrilling than riding the Phantom’s Revenge in the dark!

It used to be the roller coasters and the potato patch… but now that I’m an adult, it’s seeing my kids sheer joy when they get to go. :) It makes me proud that we have such a gem here in our city! :)

Favorite memory is every school picnic I spent. The thrill of riding the school bus on a school day to Kennywood (that’s how we did it in the old days), hanging with my friends, eyeing the boys and giggling and acting ridiculous, trying to look and act cool in front of said boys after getting soaked on the Log Jammer, beating the other schools on the Racer. And then just the smell of the place. That indescribably melange of axel grease, potato patch fries, suntan oil, sugar, and sweat. Nothing like it.

My favorite part of Kennywood is riding the Kangaroo with our whole family. All four of us can fit in one car and the squeals of delight that come out of my kids (and husband) are the best sound in the world.

My favorite part of Kennywood is just seeing the look of terror on my 7 year old son’s face if I even mention the Jack Rabbit! He almost flew out of it 2 summers ago & is completely terrified of it and any other roller coaster in the park!

  48. Jessica
    August 10, 2011 7:36 am

I’m a “no ride, lots of food” kind of girl- so my favorite part of Kennywood is watching the horror of riders as they flip around and drop and scream…all while shoving those chocolate brownie parfaits and Old Kennywood mini-pizzas in my mouth.

I like taking a cooler full of food and going with a bunch of families from the neighborhood who do the same – we eat breakfast, lunch & dinner at the pavillion with stops throughout the day at the Potatoe (Dan Quayle) Patch & the Ice Cream shop! Riding the Phantom at Night is right up there, too!

We enjoy Kennywood for some many traditional reasons: the Jack Rabbit, the Pittsburgh Plunge, the merry go round, Kiddie Land, the Potato Patch, etc. Summer would not be complete without a trip to Kennywood whether it be for school picnic day or on a hot and sunny ethnic celebration day. Thanks!
