A change is gonna come. Actually, it’s here.

Whoa!, right?

Just whoa! is what you’re saying.

Welcome to the new and improved That’s Church. It was high time for a fresh look so my butler and I for the first time ever had a professional web designer (Burgher Jennifer Lyker of Inksplash Designs) put together my own custom blog design.

A little tour! Starting at the top.

1. Header bar!

Most everything is the same and I’ve edited the Lexicon and Make Room for Kids pages a bit to reflect recent events. The search bar has been moved up there too. You’ll notice a new tab called “Store.” I think you’ll like that once it’s ready. I’m so excited for it.

2. Advertisements!

It’s been almost seven years and I’ve never really made any money off of this blog. It’s time I start and I hope you’ll understand why I’m doing it. My goal will to be to advertise companies and products that are local and that I love. There will be one banner ad on top and four to six small ads on the left sidebar. If you’re interested in advertising, simply hit me up in the contact area and we’ll chat. The ads that are in there now are ads I donated to companies that have helped me out in various nonprofit ventures such as Ti Kanaval and more. My way of repaying them for their generosity.

3. Banner!

The beautiful and talented Rachel Sager edited the old banner a bit to bring us this simpler version, still keeping our woo!-ing penguin in there and our disgruntled asshole pigeon. Rachel rocks.

4. “Posts you Don’t Want to Miss”

Some days I write posts too fast and I worry that by bumping down important posts, you’ll miss them. Therefore I’ll be keeping three posts up there to be sure as many eyes as possible are hitting those posts I either love or think are important. This means you have to scroll down a bit further to get to the first post, but don’t fret. I’m going to make it up to you.

5. Posts

Nothing new here. This template allows me to post slightly larger pictures which is nice for when I take 47 pictures of a packet of Splenda one day.

Commenting is enabled at the top and bottom of each post, to save you from extra scrolling. My God, you lazy asses.

6. I Care About

In the left sidebar is a section called “I Care About” and that is for me to feature nonprofits and nonprofit events. I get so many requests that I have trouble featuring them all. I’ll continue to feature nonprofit events as much as possible, but this just allows me to freely offer publicity to nonprofits I care about. There is no charge for that space and if you have a nonprofit or a nonprofit event you’d like to tell me about to have featured there, you simply have to email me the details and an image or two I can use and I’ll do my best to feature as many as possible. Again, that’s free to nonprofits.

That’s about it! There might be some bugs to work out as we test the site out live, so bear with us. If you notice anything buggy or off that we didn’t notice, be sure to send me an email. Otherwise, I hope you like your new That’s Church home!

If you don’t, take 47 pictures of your angry face and email them to idontgive@ashit.com.

P.S. I would have added advertisements years ago ;-)

I came to check out the new look and had a moment of ‘ads? what ads?’ Took me a minute to realize they weren’t showing up because I have Adblock Plus installed. Which I have since disabled for your site.

And! Love that there’s a link at the bottom for a mobile version! Thank you!

Love it!! Although you should warn people that they might not want to click on the store link just yet!

thanks, rachel. your warning us not to look at the store is pretty much telling us to go look. and, let me tell you, that’s some scary shit right there.

other than that….liking the new look, ginny!

I love it, especially that now you can reply to any comment.
I liked the old site too, but this is great! Nice job.

i would like to offer a suggestion / make a request: perhaps a next post and previous post button / link thingy at the end of the comments? for example, i clicked on the “mind erase” post and the three “posts you don’t want to miss” are “57 reasons” “buddy wins” and again “buddy wins” but no way to get back to the first post or see what is before and after that “mind erase” post.
if you don’t wanna make a change, i am obviously cool with that. just thought since the place looks so great (i’m loving the enhanced comment section!), maybe it might be an easy change. seeing as how i am lucky to even know how to write a post on my blog, i actually have no clue if it is simple or not!

Aw man, I open up the new improved TC and I get a microsoft security essentials warning (I never get those). Would it be your blog? magazine article I opened in a new tab? beyond the brie? smart bitches? or the marshmallow factory ad?

Oh well, says its cleaned, now I have 6 tabs to read during lunch!

Love it! Very easy to read and navigate. And no annoying pop-up ads! (Giant 3-D pigeons not withstanding).

Speaking of marshmallows, clicking that ad sent my antivirus software into overdrive. Just FYI.

So happy with how good it looks after my grade school-level design customizations.

    Great job, Jen!

I like everything but the font. It is just short of unreadable… makes my sinuses hurt… course that may be my cold. Seriously, use a good serif font and it will be soooo much easier on the eye.

This must be the way Alice felt after she stopped falling through the rabbit hole and wound up in Wonderland. Either awesome in a disorienting way or disorienting in an awesome way.

    Excellent! So fresh looking.
But, I couldn’t figure out how to add a comment at the top and had to scroll all the way down here. OUch! My poor carpal tunnel ;-D

Oh, and how can I get a picture of, say, a young Robert Redford beside my posts? Just curious.

I am so discombobulated. It looks great!! But I miss the giant graphic of before. So I wonder if we start a rumor about Jeff Reed getting back in shape, if the Ravens will sign him.
