Jim Krenn Ticket Giveaway!

It’s been a bit of time since Jim Krenn and the DVE Morning Show parted ways, but he is still very much a part of Pittsburgh.

Just because you don’t hear a voice every morning, doesn’t mean it’s silent. Something something tree falls in the forest, amiright?

Jim has long been a performer and stand-up comedian and he’s returning to those roots with a show he’ll be headlining at the Byham on May 26 called Jim Krenn: aLIVE.

And because I love you, I’ve got two tickets to give away!

What: Two tickets to JIM KRENN “aLIVE”. Jim Krenn and his all-star cast of comedy and music friends present an evening of live entertainment not seen in Pittsburgh before. A blend of video vignettes, live standup comedy, improv and live music performances by house band and acoustic acts. Performances by: Scott Blasey, Mark Eddie, Billy Elmer, Slim Forsythe, Tom Megalis, Frank Nicotero, Rod Schwartz All-Star Band.

When: Saturday, May 26, 2012

Where: The Byham Theater – Pittsburgh

To Enter: To enter, just leave a comment! One comment per valid email address and so you have something to say, tell me who your favorite stand-up comedian is. Whose show will you always try to catch if it’s on Comedy Central? Who do you try to catch when they come to town? And yes, you can choose a deceased comedian provided they did stand-up comedy. I’m guessing I’ll see lots of Mitch Hedberg mentions in the comments.

Mine? Gosh. I love stand-up SO much that it’s hard for me to choose. I am a dork for loving Jeff Foxworthy and Bill Engvall, but I’m also a Chris Rock fan and I seriously love me some John Heffron and Jeff Dunham.  But my absolute favorite is hands down Denis Leary.  His rants about smoking are deadly hilarious. You have until Friday at noon to enter at which time Random.org will choose the lucky winner.

If you don’t win, you can buy tickets by calling 412-456-6666 or visiting JimKrenn.com or by visiting the Cultural Trust here.  The $52.50 level tickets are sold out, but you can still get the $32.50 or $37.50 level. Also, a portion of proceeds will go to benefit Animal Friends.

Good luck!

  1. Jeff the SLP Guy:

After seeing him open for Patton Oswalt, I love Kyle Kinane. And I might as well plug my long time buddy Mike Berlon.

  2. Jaslyne Halter:

I absolutely adore Dane Cook; his comedy has allowed for him to become one of the funniest comedians to hit the stand up comedy stage.

  3. Allison:

I am a huge fan of Louis CK. The way he describes children? AMAZING. (Harsh and OH SO FREAKIN’ TRUE.)

  4. Kilgore Trout:

Jim Gaffigan is probably my favorite living stand-up comic. But if dead comics are coming to down I’d try to see George Carlin, but only the early 80′s George Carlin!

  5. Julie:

Oh my, I’m like Ginny…so many to choose from….I love the Blue Collar Guys, but I’d have to say the guys that really get me laughing are Dane Cook, Brian Regan and Jim Gaffigan…each have such a way with delivery.

There is a huge long lost of comedians I love.

  6. Shawna:

Can’t believe you admitted to liking Jeff Foxworthy–ha!

  7. Michael:

    Steven Wright

  8. SteelCityMagnolia:

Jeff Dunham, with Walter. Best line ever, and my sister and I still crack jokes about it — “Welcome to Walmart, get your sh!t and get out!”

  9. Tiffany:

I would have to say I have always liked Chris Rock, Jeff Foxworthy and Louis CK. Though I did take my mom to see George Carlin back in 2001 and I also enjoyed him. Recently I saw Daniel Tosh’s old stand up before he became really famous with Tosh.0 and he was hysterical!

  10. Z:

Love Ron White, Ralphie May, John Pinette, Gabrielle Iglasius and Kathy Griffin.

  11. Jonathan:

I am a huge Mitch Hedberg fan! You already shot that one out, so I will go with Eddie Izzard.

  12. Leslie:

The one standup comedy routine that I can never get out of my had and that I still quote to this day – Billy Cosby – “Himself”.

  13. AngryMongo:

Billy Gardell, Eddie Izzard, and of course, George Carlin.

  14. Just a Simple Man:

    Jeanne Robertson

Used to be Dave Chappelle but now maybe Donald Glover or Aziz Ansari

  20. Beth:

Completely off-topic and I don’t really care to win the tickets, but IT IS SO AWESOME to see the logo of the AMAZING organization I work for on your sidebar!! We do great things for lots of families and kids. I know how you feel about sick kids, but there are a lot of kids who aren’t sick physically but still need a lot of help from someone who cares. Thanks for the press, Ginny!!

  21. Marci:

Billy Gardell! We got to see him at Stage AE this past year and he was awesome!

  22. Lisa:

As a ‘Burg girl…I’m partial to Dennis Miller. I also enjoy Kathy Griffin, Jon Stewart and Jerry Seinfeld.

But I’m a HUGE Krenn fan and ‘DVE isn’t the same without him.

  23. NicinTally:

Billy Gardell is ABSOLUTELY hysterical!! I have watched his one stand up from when he was in Pittsburgh at least 3-4 times now and each time, I still laugh hysterically. So Pittsburgh and so true!

  24. BigJohn:

Has to be the “Love Master” Craig Shoemaker.

  25. Tara:

    Yep, Billy Gardell. Hands down.

  26. empirechick:

I saw Kathleen Madigan at the Palace Theater in Greensburg last year – not sure I’ve ever laughed so hard!!

Billy Gardell – hilarious growing up in Pittsburgh references.

  28. Vince:

    Jim Krenn!!

  29. Emily:

My husband and I love stand-up – this is such a wonderful give away (for whoever might win)!

like a lot of the commenters Louis CK is my current love. In college it was Eddie Izzard. I think with some practice and experience, one of my future favorites could be Donald Glover.

I like reading other people’s favorites – gave me a few names I’ve not visited in a while. Thanks!

  30. Stefanie:

Billy Gardell, I love Mike & Molly and hearing him on DVE and his latest stand up show was hilarious. Also, Bill Engvall, Tammy Pascatelli and Frank Caliendo.

  31. Cloreen B.:

Brian Regan hands down is my favorite.

But don’t enter me in the contest. That Tom Megalis guy (from the Hines Ward car commercials) is annoying enough to scare me away from this show.

  32. RichD:

Hands down, Richard Pryor. Eddie Izzard is a close second.

  33. Suz:

Lisa Lampanelli. Caught her show on Comedy Central several years ago on an insomnia laden night and I’ve been laughing ever since. Runner up to Louis CK.

  34. Dia:

George Carlin for sure if you are letting us choose dead comics.! Though if it were alive comics only I would go with Eddie Izzard.

  35. Jen:

    Artie Lange! Love!

  36. Nicole:

Ralphie May is my all time favorite!! I am also a huge fan of Scott Blasey… He did an awesome job at Jim Krenns Turkey Eve… He was hysterical! The man can do more than sing!!

  37. Nathan:

There are so many greats to say! I absolutely love Louis CK and Craig Shoemaker and Ron White, probably my top three!

  38. Jeff:

Dave Chappelle – saw him 10 years ago and his stuff still makes me laugh.

  39. John Sieverts:

I have to go old school….Bill Hicks was the best

  40. Wojo:

Too many to name….in no particular order, Rodney Dangerfield, Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor, Andrew Dice Clay, Marty Allen, Bill Cosby, Gallagher, and of course, Jim Krenn.

  41. Ross:

I love Jimmy Krenn! Huge fan of his stand-up, but I also love Billy Gardell. (I am a huge yinzer)

  42. paul myers:

Love Louis ck and Jim krenn

  43. Emily:

I love and miss Mitch Hedberg. “I went to the store to get a candle holder, but they didn’t have any. So I bought a cake.”

And I love Jim Gaffigan’s monologue on Hot Pockets.

  44. cmd_45:

George Carlin or Richard Pryor or early Bill Cosby

  45. Butcher's Dog:

George Carlin, bar none. Although Walter had maybe the greatest putdown ever as an audience member got up and was wandering around:”Three million sperm and that’s the one that got through!”

  46. Cheryl Larson:

Never miss Frank Caliendo when he is in town.

  47. hello haha narf:

the platypus man, richard jeni. oh how i miss him.

  48. bethnickel@hotmail.com:

Ron white, eddie murphy, jeff foxworthy!

  49. Sooska:

Mitch Hedberg of course. Used to catch Carlin when he came to town. These days I think John Oliver is funny as hell.

  50. Sam's Dog:

Billy Gardell has a great ‘burgh take on everything. Saw Steven Wright awhile back and loved his show.

  51. 'Burgh Girl:

Really? A “‘Burg” girl? Aww come on.

  52. Suzie-Q:

Love any comic that makes me laugh…it truly is the best medicine!! I know I’m dating myself…but I’m going to say Roseanne!!!!

  53. ErinPatricia:

    Eddie Izzard.
I saw him a few years ago and not only was he fantastically funny, but he came outside afterwards in the alleyway and had an impromptu question and answer session with those of us waiting hopefully for an autograph. He didn’t sign any, but he chatted and answered questions for over an hour.

  54. Bob:

    Gotta be Kathy Madigan.

  55. Matt D:

I’d have to go along with Denis Leary…one of the best

  56. Jen:

    John Heffron.

  60. Kate:

    My favorite was George Carlin.

  61. MMarofsky:

Mornings aren’t the same without Krenn!

  62. Julia:

Anytime he comes to town, I try to catch Billy Gardell. His roots are here, and he incorporates that into his stand-up comedy really well. I think he got his first Comedy Central hour-long spot last year, and with Mike & Molly being picked up for at least a second season… it’s cool to see a down-to-earth guy like that from Pittsburgh make it big.

  63. Baba Wawa:

    sam kinison and lewis black

  64. red pen mama:

I love John Heffron as well, but if I could see Richard Jenning (RIP), that would be awesome. He was fall down on the floor hilarious.

  65. red pen mama:

I saw Izzard live years ago, and missed jokes because I was laughing so hard.

  66. Greg:

Greg Warren. Dude is flat out hilarious. I’ve seen him a few times at the Improv with some other Pittsburgh notables. Lynne Koplitz is another fave. She’s the total package: good looks and the mouth of a sailor!

  67. rob:

Dennis leary. Hands down funniest man alive.

  68. Nicole:

    George Carlin!

  69. Jill:

I’m on the Louis CK bandwagon. I’d propose to him if I wasn’t already married.

  70. Cynthia Brazen:

Animal Friends, Friend. Thanks for your support from one pooch to another

  71. amy:

Wanda Sykes has a cool kind of comedy

  72. Sara:

Brian Regan! clutch your side laugh funny!! I am a groupie.

  73. Rob:

Ashamed to admit this, but Drew Carey. I loved the old Drew with the thick glasses and suits with skinny ties.

  74. Sue:

    Bill Cosby.

  75. Kim Z:

Am I the only Kathy Griffin fan out there?
